Project Details :

Title 1. : Sales Information System

Duration : Dec’98 to April’99

Role : Programmer

Client : Intelsoft Inc.

Platforms : COBOL ,CICS,DB/2

Description :This system was developed for a medium sized marketing Company. The Company used to be flooded with product related enquiries which were generated through sources like Advertisements, Yellow pages, Mailers, Door-to-door approaches, Customer references etc. There was a need to effectively attend to all these enquiries and channelize its sales-work-force. Having a complete control over the enquiries was realised to be the key to generate more revenue. Following were the main modules incorporated :

Customer Record Collection.

Customer Information Retrieval

Reports Customer Information Retrieval Module

Contribution : This Module had a critical role in that it was constantly used through the working day to access Prospective client / business related information. Coding: Creation of Date Entry Screens for retrieval of customers, Company and Business Information based on field entries like Client's Name , area of business, product requirements, expected date of purchase, Salesman-wise enquiries etc. Documentation : Internal and External Documentation for System Integration Stage.

Title 2: Y2K project for State Bank Of India

Duration: Dec '97 to Dec 98

Tool: MF-Revolve

Platforms: COBOL, DB2, CICS,JCL.

Description: The Fixed Window technique was used for Y2K Compliance. Following steps of century date conversion were followed.

Impact Analysis: The respective modules were scanned using tool that gave us the impacted date fields in a report format. Second scan was done by the individual member in form of Manual (line by line) search and a report was generated which contained impacted fields missed by the tool. The final deliverable document which merged all the reports of the impact analysis stage was generated.

Code Renovation: This phase covers the actual software conversion and deployment of converted application. Software Conversion Regression testing. Quality Assurance. Deployment. Based on the Impact Analysis Report the detailed change proposal is prepared. This contains Source Changes Data Changes Configuration & Other Changes.

Testing: In this phase the programmers use specialised testing tools such as tracers, debuggers, and instrumental test code to test whether the specific module is Y2K compliant or not. It also included sub system testing & integrated system testing.

Contribution: Acted as an internal quality assurance person. Was involved in merging of all deliverables before sending the same for approval by the client. Participated in making the guidelines for code renovation and unit testing. Actively involved in the quality assurance of products of all stages, documenting discrepancies and starting remedial process and arranging meetings to avoid the same in future. Was also involved in other activities related to project support like follows,

Managing our LAN server which was Windows NT Based Granting/ Revoking of user authorities.

Also involved in DBA activities, which demanded my participation in administration of Database in XDB, which were used to store project tracking information. Involved in assigning the various protocols (TCP/IP) for our project execution workstations to meet our LAN, internet and intranet needs.

Title 3: Library management System

Duration: Feb ’97 - Nov ‘97

Platforms: COBOL, DB2, CICS, JCL.

Description: This Project was developed to computerise all the operations of the library. Maintaining entries of all the books in the market, available at the concerned library, their status and location. Issuing of library books and library cards. Also Maintaining database of library staff and also providing facility to keep records of their leaves, generate payslips. Giving online interface for all the above mentioned tasks and for general library information services like overdue books, lost books lists etc. It also gave extensive reporting facility about book inventory, library members, defaulter’s list, library staff statistics.

Contribution: Was responsible for designing and coding of the Library Books issue and tracking module. Participated in sessions which gave the initial idea for design of all the database and tables of the whole system keeping in mind the heavy inquiry oriented aspect of the system. Was part of the team, which designed user friendly interfaces for this module. Also had a considerable involvement in designing the various report formats and coding module for generating report of book inventory.

Title 4: Patient Information Monitoring System

Role: Programmer

Duration: Apr ’96 - Jan ‘97

Platforms: COBOL, DB2, CICS, JCL.

Description: This is a software system for computerisation of hospital services. The system is utilised by a hospital, which is an independent body. The hospital has 15 departments. Each department has 5 wards, with a capacity of 20 beds in each ward. The hospital has a Blood Bank within its premises, which provides blood whenever required. Everyday reports are generated for OPD patients. For IPD patients, the record is maintained. Relief is given to the poor patients, depending upon their status. Activities performed under PIMS:- Registration of patients. Maintenance of patients records. Maintenance of doctors records. Generation of bills. The developed system ensures effective co-ordination between the hospital and the related departments, along with the Blood Bank. The system covers medical services for the employees. The system employs high validation checks on dates, relation of the blood donor & the patients etc., wherever necessary along with extensive reporting facilities.

Contribution: Participated in sessions to chalk out the naming conventions and coding guidelines for programs, screens and JCL’s. Was responsible in the complete design and development of the module for maintenance of patient records and statistics. Was also part of the team that did the debugging and testing of this module. Participated in helping document help instruction of operating of the entire system and giving end-user training and tackling the initial deployment problems.

Title 5. Development of Inventory Management System.

Client: AIR-INDIA, Mumbai.

Duration: May ’95 - Mar ‘96

Role: Analysis & Coding.

Platforms: COBOL, DB2, CICS, JCL.

Description: This software was a part of the main project which was undertaken to computerise all operations of the Import/Export section of the airline. This software was developed to keep track of import and Export Operations for Both Perishable and non-perishable Items. The concept used here was based on the fact that High Priority is assigned to perishable items, Allocating the Lot no., Bom no. and specifying the dead-line for its Export/Import. This software was implemented at the airport (Stock And purchase dept.)

Contribution: Was involved in feasibility study and low level design of this module. Identified the batch and online needs and the percentage of the same so that module design can be based on the higher percentage aspect. Was involved in designing part of the user interface. Was involved in coding the part of the module, which catered to the inquiry needs and in some special cases updated the databases. Participated in identifying the batch requirement, designing reports and coding some of the batch codes and modifying JCL’s for the same.
