Background
In 1979 or so, Alan was hired by a local Norfolk TV station to come up with a new theme for their evening news show. I wrote the original version, we recorded it in a couple days, and the station manager was happy with the new theme. I thought we would be famous, but before they could put in the new theme music the station was sold and the new owner had different, more far-reaching ideas for the station. So much for fame.
Instrumentation
All of the instrumentation for this song was done with the electronic keyboards that Alan and I owned, except for Tom Scott's tremendous drums.
Behind the Scenes
The original news theme was very straightforward and only had a couple layers of instrumentation, because that fit the TV station's technical requirements. I started adding more electronic keyboard parts little by little to get to the album version.
