Wanna go home?

Best friends. I don't have any. And, quite frankly, I don't want one.

Everyone always has a "best friend," one person that is closer to them than anyone else, someone that they can tell everything to and be told everything by. Most say that having a best friend is essential, for whatever reason. Me? I'm happy keeping my friends good, rather than best.

Why? Well, for as long as I can remember, having a "best friend," or just saying that someone is mine, always ends up badly. Whenever someone says they're my best friend, or I recognize them as a best friend and vice versa, stuff starts falling apart. We never talk any more, we certainly don't hang out, fighting increases to crazy levels.

For instance, in sixth grade (yeah, a long time ago, I know), my best friend David and I started working on a comic book. Yes, it sounds stupid now but we were pretty jazzed about it. Then, over the week, we had to write some stupid @$$ paper about out "best friend and what you have learned from them." Well, everyone wrote their papers, Dave's about me, mine about Dave (and a few others like Reiko and Hannah). By the end of the week, all the comics stuff was torn up and we didn't talk for a week. Good thing 12 year olds forget fast otherwise we wouldn't be friends today, which we are.

So, you can keep your best friend. I like my good ones just where they are.
