BEAM robotics is fairly easier to get into than "conventional" robotics. I say that because their is no huge sum microcontroller to buy, 50$ is all you need to get into BEAM.
In order to keep myself interested, I explored into BEAM, and IMMEDIATELY found it easier to do than "conventional" robotics. In minutes I was understanding the circuits, and in the same time I was "hooked". I looked at Steve Bolt's SUNEATER site, and found the SUNEATER I. I decided to build it. A spent a month looking for parts for it, wondering' how to make a PCB, etc... Than I ran into SOLARBOTICS. Hm... I looked in thier Downloads section, had  a simple tutorial on how to make a Solar engine. I downloaded it, and looked at it. Since then I have gotten into several projects, a Flat free formed photopopper, (tongue twister I tell ya) a 1381 SE, and the one I was driveling on earlier on the page. The 1381 doesn't have a page of it's own.....yet.
BTW: I have junked the SUNEATER I project. No longer in existence. It's dead. Gone to meet it's maker. Deceased. On the little cloud waaaayy up there.
