Zither Facts
The music of Ekim Beau is as unique as the instrument on which it is played.  A modest musician from Rhode Island, Ekim has devoted a large part of his life developing his music and his very special - one of a kind - musical instrument.  He has named it the CrossBeau Zither, though it barely resembles a traditional zither in appearance.  This massive instrument stands about 4 feet high and weighs in at ... well who knows... but it takes at least two strong people to move it around.  The sound boards, with 180 steel strings, tuning keys, electric pick-ups, and built in pressure zone microphones, work together to create various timbre  and tones in a wide frequency range.  As you listen to this recording you can hear many distinct voices, including harpsichord, guitar, zither, harp and hammered dulcimer, Just to name a few.  Ekim sometimes uses finger picks, sometimes not, depending on the mood he wants to create.  His fingers are busy, filling every measure with an abundance of notes, ranging from deep, rich bass to crisp, tinkling highs... a fully orchestrated sound which blends beautifully with his gentle vocal style.
