There are many different religions on this earth, Christianity, Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, the Baha'i Faith, to name a few. There is also the Wicca. The Wicca is the religion of the Witches. This religion is ancient, and although appeared to be stamped out hundreds of years ago, has never died. It lives on today, passed down from mother to daughter, friend to friend.
Witches are normal, everyday, people. It's a common misconception that witches are evil creatures, stirring cauldrons of yucky things, making spells and flying around on broomsticks. Witches have nothing to do with halloween, they do not twitch their noses to make spells, and they don't practice satanism. They don't believe in satan so they can't practice it.
These stories, and many others, were made up to frighten people hundreds of years ago. The marauding armies of men who travelled through Europe, conquering village after village in the name of their "King" and that King's religion, had to make sure that the people in the villages with the most power, were silenced. The people in those days with the most power were the wise old women of the villages. Before the raiding conquerers these women were respected and revered. They were the "rulers" of the villages, the ones that the people turned to when they needed help with the right time for the planting of the crops, they were the healers of the sick with their vast knowledge of herbs and medicines, and the wisest when it came to giving good honest advice.
So - to destroy the most powerful and most revered ones, the clever and evil raiders denounced them as "witches", turning the name into something hated and feared. The wise and gentle old women were hunted and tortured to death, filling the villagers with fear and forcing innocent people to be destroyed in the name of the new religion that the raiders brought with them.
The fear remained, and the picture the raiders painted of evil old women with cauldrons, flying across the sky on broomsticks, hunting for children to capture and making horrible and harmful spells, remained for hundreds of years, and still remains today because of the ignorance and foolishness of humanity.
The women were forced into hiding, forced to keep their craft to themselves and pass it down carefully to avoid detection.
But now, in this new age of tolerance and enlightenment, where people of all religions can live together in peace and for the most part, respect, the witches can now step out into the light and be known for who they are, with no fear or apprehension.This is the truth. A witch is a person like your mother or aunt, or perhaps your neighbour. A witch or member of the "wicca" will not sit down and make "bad spells" to hurt people.
The wiccan rede (which is like the "rule" that witches like to live by) is:
"An it harm none, do as ye wilt"
- in other words "only do it if it cannot harm". Witches also believe that whatever spell they weave will come back to the witch THREE TIMES STRONGER. In other words, if you weave a bad spell, it will come back and hit you 3 times harder. So this is why witches do not make bad spells... they only want to make good ones that help people.
Crystals and gemstones are helpful to witches. They use them to make healing spells and bless things that need help. For instance, witches like to help heal the earth, they are concerned at the problems the earth is facing, because mankind is slowly destroying the earth with pesticides and pollution. Witches work hard to correct the damage that has been done. Witches might group together at a certain time to make a strong "healing" spell and also at the turn of the seasons to celebrate the change of the seasons with a ritual.
Many women, when they hear the truth about witches, find they have an inner knowledge that starts to emerge. They suddenly recognise "the truth" and feel a kinship with the ideals and beliefs of the witches. Women are the "bearers" and "mothers", they fear for the earth and the future of their children. Women are for the most part, sensitive to the damage being done to the environment, they understand BECAUSE they are mothers, they have a kinship to the earth which is like the mother to all of us.
Don't be afraid to question, and look for the truth. Keep an open mind and let your heart guide you to the answers. Use your female intuition that tells you things you cannot explain, to "feel" for the truth. Don't let negativity, ignorance or fear on someone else's part, blind you to the light. As soon as you start to look for the truth, someone will stand in your way and tell you that you are wrong. Expect it, and learn to sidestep. Above all, keep an open mind and a sense of humour!
