Vital away win for Giants in Uni-ball

Julius Joseph was out due to his knee injury.

Rocks 61-77 Giants
Manchester Giants' chances of qualifying from Uni-ball Trophy Group C were increased tonight with an away 77-61 victory over the Edinburgh Rocks.

Andre Alleyne said, before Saturday's (2 Dec) game: "This game is extremely important. It's a must win situation for us."

"I have talked about protecting home court advantage and I also said that we had to sneak one on the road. We have already played in two on the road and lost both, so we need to have this win."

The Giants' players responded to Alleyne's words to give themselves a big chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Trophy.

They came out in front at the end of the first-quarter after opening an 8 point lead.

They then extended their lead and kept the coachless hosts at arms length, to extend the lead into double figures. From there they finished the game 77-61 to claim a vital away victory.

Giants were without veteran star, Tony Holley after the club released him mid-week so that he could go to play in Israel. Giants were also missing Julius Joseph due to his knee injury, but had Martin Gottfried and Brian Earl.

Brian Reese top-scored for the Giants in which was only his second game for the side, with 22 points. Ted Berry scored 17 for the Rocks.

Giants must get a win over the Newcastle Eagles at the MEN Arena on Friday 8th December, to stay in the competition.
