Giants win first Uni-ball Trophy game

Tony Holley won MVP with 12 points and 16 rebounds.

Manchester Giants won their first Uni-ball Trophy game with a 74-64 victory over Edinburgh Rocks.

Giants scored the first 4 points but then went behind by a run by the rocks, and trailed most of the first quarter by 4 points, but ended 16-18 behind.

Giants didn't regain the lead unitl 2 minutes left in the half, which ended 37-37.

The third quarter ended 56-53 to the Giants, in which point guard Brian Earl hit 3 consecutive 3-pointers to lead the scorers on 17.

The game was very tight and only at the end when the Giants hit their last 5 points from the foul line, and Tony Holley scored a crucial basket with 50-seconds left, they won with a 10 point gap.

Justin Phoenix continued his good form and was very impressive throughout the night, but it wasn't enough to win MVP over Tony Holley who showed leadership skills at the end.

The crowd at the MEN Arena was low but even so, must be credited for a fantastic noise which they created to boost the players.
