Giants' Head Coach, Andre Alleyne, commented: "With the departure of
Tony Holley we needed someone with a British passport and obviously he fits the bill. He
has a wealth of experience after playing in the league for a number of years. The question
on everyone's lips will be regarding the fact that he has not played professionally for
two years, but his body is still in good shape. He has been practicing with us since the
start of the season on and off to stay in shape.
"I'm not bringing him
in to be a star or to be the saviour of the team, I'm bringing him in to give guidance to
the young guys and just bring experience. There's no pressure on him at all - we just want
him to contribute where he can and help the team along. With two or three weeks of hard
practice, I think the old Mark Robinson will come back as far as the talent he brings to
the basketball floor."
6'5" Robinson is a
proven scorer, with an average of more than 21 points per game from his previous spells in
the BBL, as well as nearly six rebounds per game.
And as well as uni-ball
trophy success in 1998, Robinson reached the Championship Final with Manchester in 1995,
only just missing out on the title. He is also a four-time All Star (1995-1998 inclusive).
Robinson will line up for
the Giants in tomorrow's (Wednesday 6 December) BBL Championship clash with Leicester
Riders at Loughborough University (tip-off 7.30pm).
