Hello everyone,
I've been a breeder (aviculturist) since 1989...still learning. I do most of
my own microbiology along with all my handfeeding on babies from day 0 or
taken from the nest box at three weeks of age.
I own all my birds and with no consignment in my home. I do own several
pairs of specific species that are placed throughout the States. I breed
here the large Macaws including the Hyacinthines. I also have Queens,
Rosebreast, Greys, Vosmaeri Eclectus, Capes (P.rf) Black Wing Jardines and do
have a lone female Scarlet with her mate stolen while I was in South Africa.
I also have the Red Fronted Macaws, Blue and Gold, Hahns, Bare eyed
Cockatoos. Most all my birds I have owned past five years up to the ten
years I've been in business as my Greys, Rosebreast, Vosmaeri, Queens,
Scarlets and the Hyacinthines.
My two greatest achievements or three are ... breeding the Scarlet Macaws
with many babies under my belt from my one pair. The Hyacinthines are
another...as I have raised my baby since five weeks of age. Velvet is her
name and some may remember when I even bought her and b brought her home to
raise. I bought a mate for her when she was three...put them together and
with her four short years had given me five babies. Velvet turned five years
of age May 5 and gave me another baby this past Saturday, which is her sixth
baby. This is beyond my dreams to be so successful with a wonder of birds of
which I raised the dam, put the pair together and then have babies by
incubation, hatching and hand raising from day 0.
I would not let her incubate for she is just to young...but she like to do
the wild thing with her mate...always doing the wild thing....:)
The other accomplishment I have done is....I have a patent on a feeding
device of which I invented, patented and still waiting for a manufacture to
pick it up. After this last Bird Talk addition one may do just that. I have
the patent on the Psittacines feeding device and the feeding method.
Now for some serious talk...Please excuse me if this has been brought up
before...If we all went out and got five breeder and brought them onto this
list...we might be able to give two gifts to our favorite charities....:)
I've put this on my personal post in the likelihood you already have read
it..then you can finish your reading now...if not read on....
Lets make breeders make a difference with the virus of PDD...and give five
thousand dollar to the university of Georgia...and the other to DR. Jack
Gaskin University of Florida. If this is in an agreement..I"ll go right out
and get my five members for this list if not more. We can boost our
membership up where Lorien will have to have assistants>>>>:)
Lets make a difference,
Cherane
The "Grow to Give" Program is our first ONEreach event.
Through the "Grow to Give" Program, ONElist will donate $5,000 to each of two
charities chosen by the two communities that grow their membership the most
within the next two months. The community that grows the most in new and
confirmed ONElist subscribers and the community that grows the most as a
percentage basis of new and confirmed ONElist subscribers will each choose a
recipient charity. ONElist will then donate $5,000 to that charity in the
name of the community.
All ONElist communities as of April 19, 1999 at 12:01 a.m. PDT are
automatically participants in the "Grow to Give" Program. The program will
run from April 19, 1999 through June 19, 1999 at 11:59 p.m. PDT.
For full details, see the Grow to Give Program Overview.

Is everyone OK from the Acreage in Florida? Can someone give a report of
breeders in the area?
Thanks, Cherane

I"m an experienced M2 Breeder. I dont breed the most of the Cockatoos to day
because of a lung condition. (I still have my Rosebreast (2pr.) and Bareeys.
I'd be more then happy to assist WAR.

Len, Here is my note again....I dont think I challenged your position with
my experssing *my* experience. However, if you took it that way, consider me
told off by you and I'll accept you know that bird owners give away pet
birds for breeding.
Cherane
I'll never pretend to do rescue and breeding go
in the same aviary.

My opinions,
Cherane <<<<<<<<<<
Cherane.....I do agree with you, and I understand your point of view.
However.....I do believe that rescue and breeding do go together inso far
that, most breeders I know have a geniune love of birds and would go out of
there way to "rescue" a bird if needed as long as it did not endanger their
flock. We all know that birds are social animals.....and they NEED to be
able to BOND with someone...if that means another bird of their species so be
it...and if they are happy and go to nest....thats wonderful..BUT.......
going out of your way to insure that they breed is just
wrong.........everywhere you turn you see ads.....will take your birds into
my loving home not a breeder or a broker. If this gentleman EVER aquired a
bird this way he could be opening himself up to a nice lawsuit.
Just My Thoughts,
D
