Villa Rosa, affordable Italian gem

Villa Rosa, an Italian gem adjacent to McCaffrey’s Supermarket off Heacock Road in Yardley, seems to be a one-of-a-kind place to dine. I ventured there after school with three friends and 30 dollars and actually made it home with some change.

Villa Rosa is not your typical pizza place with endless drinks and loud music. It is a quaint restaurant specializing in fancy Italian dinners, such as veal marsala and fettuccine primavera. It happens to also serve the usual pizza, burgers, and fries, which, pitifully enough, I live off of.

So it was my lack of income that brought me to Villa Rosa- remember I only make $6.05 per hour.

Anyway, as we moved in on the eatery, we felt the pre-dining fear of being under dressed and inappropriate. Our fears were let to rest, though, when we encountered the warm smiles of the Villa Rosa staff. We were seating in the restaurant part of sparse tables and Italian pictures.

The one word I would use to describe the atmosphere would be “clean”. I do not mean clean as in sterile like the dentist, but clean as in there is no gum stuck under the tables.

Junior, Erin Toale was surprised at the quality of the food. “I knew that Villa Rosa had nice dishes, but I never knew it could double as a quality pizza and burger joint.”

The pizza was served warm and fresh. The cheese had a strong staying power and the medium sized crust made your mouth water. The taste of the tomato sauce and cheese was not very different from that of what we were used to, but it did have it’s own subtle flavor. All together the meal cost us about $12.00. “Villa Rosa would be a great place to go if you were in a group who wanted a various kinds of Italian food,” junior, Sara Ott concluded.

Another way to eat more and spend less would be to sample some of Villa Rosa’s cold subs. For example a large tuna sub can be purchased for $6.70 and it can easily be spilt between two people. For lone eaters, a small size, costing $4.50, is available.

Take-out is also an option at Villa Rosa and is widely taken advantage of. Friday nights, the place is swarmed with people, so beware.

My suggestion for ordering out on weekend nights would be to call early and give them ample time. Fifteen minutes should translate to 25 because nobody wants to stand there.

Villa Rosa gives dinners the options of going all out, of just grabbing a slice of pie, or of a little bit of both.

I would recommend this place for any occasion because everyone can fulfill their taste buds, but do not have to empty their wallet.
