On Wednesday, March 28, nearly 200 students, teachers
and parents showed up at the International Dinner held in honor
of World Language Month.
Students were asked to bring an ethnic dish to the
festivities and in turn were awarded three euros, bonus points,
for their contribution and attendance at the occasion.
From 6-9 p.m. the Neshaminy High School cafeteria
was transformed into an ethnic extravaganza.
This is the third year that the International Dinner
has been held. It was a shock the first year when we had such
a large turn out, said French teacher, Madame Weaver. Since
the participation was so overwhelming the Foreign Language teachers
decided that the dinner must be an annual event.
We had everything from peirogies to pizzelles,
said French teacher, Madame Griffin. There were 10 tables overflowing
with main dishes, soups, side dishes, breads, and desserts.
Everyone who came seemed to enjoy themselves,
added Griffin.
People were even given the chance to take home some
of the great recipes that they had tasted that night by purchasing
the International Dinner Cookbook, a new addition to the annual
event.
For only three dollars, families could enjoy delicious
ethnic favorites such as East Indian Chicken and Rice or perhaps
even Chocolate Raspberry Tarts. The profits will go towards the
purchase of paper products as well as Desktop Publishing needs.
The cookbooks couldnt have been possible without
the help of the Business Education Department. A contest was held
in order to see who could create the most original cookbook. The
winning design team, First Row Productions, consisted
of Antony Tereshchenko, Crystal Taggart, Carla Rhimer, Irwing Ratner,
and Chantal Vogt.
The Foreign Language Department and Club are greatly
anticipating this cultivating event that is planned to take place
once again next March.
Each year the dinner has improved with many new
additions and as far as the Foreign Language Department is concerned,
the best is yet to come.
