GALLAGHER SHUNS 'ELTON AND GEORGE' LIFESTYLE

OASIS rocker NOEL GALLAGHER has no intention of living a detached superstar existence like SIR ELTON JOHN or GEORGE MICHAEL, despite his enduring fame.

The LYLA musician, who first topped the British charts in 1994, is determined to life a normal life in London and refuses to allow starstruck fans to alter the way he conducts himself everyday.

He says, "It's a bit weird going to the supermarket (sometimes) you kind of freak people out when you've got four bags of shopping.

"But you've got to have a real life because if you don't, you end up like Elton John or George Michael. Can you imagine George Michael buying toothpaste and a toothbrush and a newspaper or some lemons?

"Ordinary people are determined to make you feel bad, though. You'll be in the queue at the supermarket with a pint of milk, some bread and a newspaper and someone will say, 'What you doing here?'

"I turn around and say, 'F**k off, I'm doing my f**king shopping like you are.'"

GEORGE MICHAEL HIRES OLD MANAGER

GEORGE MICHAEL

GEORGE MICHAEL

GEORGE MICHAEL is reteaming with his former manager MICHAEL LIPPMAN, in a bid to rediscover the success he enjoyed in his 1980s heyday.

Michael and Lippman went their separate ways in 1990 after the latter had steered Michael through his greatest period of success - most notably his 1988 Grammy-winning album FAITH which sold 10 million copies in America alone.

Michael's career has waned since - his 2004 album PATIENCE sold just 373,000 copies in the US - so he's turning to Lippman once again.

Lippman says, "We want to conquer the world as we did in the past.

"He's excited and inspired to run the gauntlet. I don't think he would have said to me, 'I want to look at the world and be out there playing my music,' if he didn't want to do it again."

Lippman hints Michael may fulfil the promise he made after Patience's release - to distribute any further albums on the internet.

He adds, "He's watching technology change, and he's been reinvigorated in letting people hear his music."

George and aging:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/showbiz/showbiznews.html?in_article_id=365132&in_page_id=1773

George's careless whiskers
By HENRY MELLER, Daily Mail

In his heartthrob heyday, George Michael employed a team of security guards to keep over-eager admirers at bay. These days, his shabby appearance might well be all the deterrent they need.

Taking a walk near his home in North London, he was unrecognisable as the clean-cut boy who made his name topping the charts as one half of 80s band Wham!

"I couldn't actually believe it was him," said a passer-by. "I remember when he had a gorgeous six-pack stomach. Now it's more like a barrel.

"His face was all puffy and he had a few days' growth of grey stubble - he certainly hasn't aged well."

But if the 41-year-old behind such hits as Careless Whisper and Last Christmas was feeling down in the dumps, he may also have felt sympathy for Les Dennis, who he came across during his stroll. Dennis, 51, once a fixture on Saturday night TV, has now all but disappeared since Family Fortunes was dropped and his wife Amanda Holden left him.

'Old, fat and happy'

Michael, who recently announced his permanent retirement from showbusiness, has voluntarily become something of a recluse in recent years, spending his time cooped up indoors, gorging on junk food.

The singer, who was arrested for lewd behaviour in a Los Angeles public toilet in 1998 and then came out as gay, said he took it on himself to bow out of the limelight. "I truly believe there is a life for me - but not this one."

Yesterday one of his closest friends told the Mail: "What people have to realise is that George spent over 20 years at the very top of the pop industry.

"His appearance was constantly scrutinised. Now he doesn't have to worry about that he's really enjoying letting himself go. I think he wants to end up old, fat and happy."

From the Dallas morning news 10/03:

Alan Peppard:

BIG POND PONG: Tracing Dallas art dealer Kenny Goss' trips across the Atlantic is like watching a game of Pong. Last week, he and his British pop star partner George Michael celebrated Kenny's birthday in Paris at the George V. While there, Kenny talked the hotel's artistic director Jeff Leatham, an author and florist to the beau monde, into jetting to Dallas for Saturday's Two By Two for AIDS and Art benefit at the Rachofsky mansion in Preston Hollow.

Kenny has donated pieces by Richmond Burton, Richard Caldicott and Stella Vine to Two By Two. A show of Mr. Burton's abstract paintings is hanging at Goss Gallery. Kenny's pal Donatella Versace (they talk almost daily by phone, "Now get out!!!") is pondering adding one to her collection, much of which she inherited from her late brother, Gianni.

Another collection of new duets by Ray Charles will be in stores next month as Ahmet Ertegun makes good on a deathbed promise.

Six years before Ray Charles recorded "Genius Loves Company," the album of duets for Concord Records that has sold 3 million copies, he had started on a similar collection for Warner Music. Titled "Genius and Friends" -- and produced by Phil Ramone, who also oversaw "Genius Loves Company" -- the 13-track collection will be released Sept. 20 by Rhino Records. Charles would have turned 75 on Sept. 23.

Disc features Charles performing with Angie Stone, Chris Isaak, Mary J. Blige, Gladys Knight, Ruben Studdard and the Harlem Gospel Singers, Diana Ross and George Michael.

GEORGE MICHAEL MAKES ROOM FOR DOGS

GEORGE MICHAEL

GEORGE MICHAEL and his partner KENNY GOSS are selling the condominium they share in Dallas, Texas - so they can have more space for their dogs.

The FAITH singer and Texas gallery owner Goss have put the three-bedroom abode on the market for an undisclosed price, but still have plans to remain in the area once they purchase a larger home.

The couple, who also own homes in London and the English countryside, have three dogs and plan to buy two Labrador puppies.

Beyond a condo on the Creek

12:05 AM CDT on Friday, August 5, 2005

Apparently superstar George Michael and his Texan partner, Kenny Goss, love life in Dallas. They've entertained locals at their swell high-rise condo on Turtle Creek.

But the word is that they're looking for something bigger – a lot bigger.

The condo will soon go on the market as George and Kenny search for a house with some well-manicured acreage so they can bring their dogs from England.

Now that Kenny has successfully opened his Goss Gallery at Cedar Springs and Fairmount, he and George plan to spend more time here."

G and Dr. Phil:

From Dallas Morning News (Dr. Phil has a talk show usually helping families at risk.)

Faith in Dr. Phil

The many happy returns of Dr. Phil will be great news for another part-time Dallasite, British singer George Michael. When I got to chat with the star recently, he went all happy-face when he found out that Dr. Phil was from Dallas.

George jokingly shoved his longtime partner, native Dallasite Kenny Goss. "Why didn't you tell me Dr. Phil was here?" he said. "I would have come sooner."

Thanks, Joyce: This time it is Kenny's turn to Advocate:

The Advocate (July 5, 2005) has a brief interview with Kenny Goss on page 65 in the Arts & Entertainment Reviews

http://www.advocate.com/toc_w.asp?id=942

Thanks, Paulette.

In the July 5, 2005 edition of The Advocate George is mentioned again..

Art Dealer Kenny Goss

Growing up around Dallas, Kenny Goss had his only real exposure to art through free prints his mother would bring home from the grocery store. It wasn't until the now-46-year-old former sporting goods company director met pop megastar George Michael 10 years ago-they've been together ever since-that Goss started to hit all the art world grace notes. Now he's opened Goss Gallery in Dallas with a major showing of David LaChapelle photography.

Why David LaChapelle for the first show?
I knew that Dallas would love it [and it has] never seen anything like that before. I love what he does with celebrity culture, how he creates these amazing images around the celebrities. You can look at it forever and see something different every time.

His art is over-the-top, both aesthetically and, you know, with the topless woman snorting diamonds. So is Dallas shockable?
It's really weird:Some of the biggest collectors in the world are in Dallas. I think Texas gets labeled with being much more provincial and conservative than it necessarily is, particularly in the art world. We haven't had protesters or anything. As a matter of fact, it's all been really positive. What I've heard from lots of people is "This is so cool; this is just what Dallas needs."

George Michael came to the gallery opening, and I'm sure that was a big draw, but are you afraid of forever being known as "George Michael's boyfriend?"
The reason I decided to do it in Dallas was because in Dallas most people know that I've been a successful businessman. Now, obviously, there's cachet to [being with him], I'm not kidding myself, but you still have to have good stuff on the walls, and you have to have stuff that people want to buy. People are not going to walk in and buy art just because it's George Michael's boyfriend's gallery. In London-I live in London most of the time-I really believe that English people would have said "Who do you think you are? This pop star's boyfriend opening a gallery."

George Michael Bids Farewell to Pop World

By Mike Collett-White

BERLIN (Reuters) - Singer George Michael (news) said farewell to the world
of pop music on Wednesday, using a candid documentary about his life to put
the record straight before he "disappeared."

He also declared the genre that brought him fame and riches, as well as
unwanted media attention, was dead.

"That genre is just dead as far as I am concerned," he told Reuters in an
interview after the premiere of his documentary at the Berlin Film Festival.

"George Michael: A Different Story" traces a rags-to-riches journey that
made Michael one of the biggest selling artists of the 1980s and 1990s but
which was not without tragedy along the way.

"I just thought it was very important to explain myself before I
disappear," the 41-year-old said. "I truly believe that there's a life for
me that is not this one."

When asked what he would do next, he replied:

"Perhaps it will mean writing for other people. I have an ambition to write
a truly contemporary musical, not necessarily even for the stage, but for
the screen ... I have got to find ways to make music and enjoy it the way I
used to."

Michael railed against the advent of manufactured bands and the music
world's obsession with celebrity, explaining that he was not interested in
competing with the likes of British musicians Robbie Williams (news) or
Will Young (news).

"Nobody want to hear about politics, or any kind of strong ideas in pop any
more."

In the 100-minute film, he speaks frankly about losing a lover to AIDS
(news - web sites) and the death of his mother, of the infamous lewd act in
a Beverly Hills toilet and the media fury over his anti-Iraq (news - web
sites) war stance.

CELEBRITY LIFE "UNBEARABLE"

The documentary is fascinating as much for its insight into life as a
celebrity as it is for revealing some of the truth about the notoriously
publicity-shy star.

"It's never suited me very well, the business of media and celebrity,"
Michael said. "Now I just find it unbearable."

His meteoric rise to superstardom, first with Wham! and then as a solo
artist, was complicated by the fact that he was gay while widely believed
to be straight.

"I thought, 'Oh my God, I'm a massive star and I think I may be a poof.
This is not going to end well'," he said in the film.

Michael eventually outed himself after being charged with lewd behavior in
a toilet in 1998, although he lost Brazilian boyfriend Anselmo Feleppa to
an AIDS-related condition in 1993.

"I remember looking at the sky and saying: 'Don't do this to me'," Michael
said, referring to the moment when Feleppa told him he was going for
medical tests.

Ballads like "Careless Whisper" and "Faith" have propelled Michael to the
pinnacle of the music world.

He has sold more than 70 million records, and his 1987 album "Faith"
yielded six number one singles in the key American market. He has amassed a
personal fortune estimated at 80 million pounds ($150 million).

But he has also had fallow years, such as when he fought a losing legal
battle against his record label in the early 1990s.

He came roaring back in 1994, performing the acclaimed "Jesus to a Child"
single under Berlin's Brandenburg Gate.

Elton John (news) appears in the film and repeats his criticism of Michael
that a decision not to tour was a waste of his talent.

"I find him very frustrating," said John.

John also takes a swipe at Michael's reluctance to tell the world that he
was gay.

"To be busted in the toilet is not the best way to come out of the closet,
is it?" John asked.

Michael said he never thought the incident would destroy his career, but he
was "floored" by the media backlash triggered by his opposition to the war
in Iraq.

The video for "Shoot the Dog" features cartoon figures of President Bush
(news - web sites) in bed with British Prime Minister Tony Blair (news -
web sites) and his wife.

George Michael Says Pop Is Dead

BERLIN - George Michael (news) says he's closing a chapter in his
two-decade pop music career with his new autobiographical film, "George
Michael: A Different Story."

The reason?

"I think my own genre is dead," Michael said Wednesday as he presented the
movie at the Berlin International Film Festival. "I don't really think that
there is anyone in the modern pop business who I feel I want to spar with."

Michael, 41, said he wants to "try to move my career into a different form
- I don't know what that's going to be yet."

In the new film, directed by Southan Morris, Michael takes viewers through
the highs and lows of his career, from his rise to fame as half of 1980s
British pop duo Wham! to his 1998 arrest for lewd conduct at a public
restroom in Beverly Hills, Calif. - an episode that forced his
homosexuality into the public domain.

"Having been so private and not explained myself for the last 15 years or
so, I thought that my fans deserved to know what those songs were about,"
Michael told reporters. "It's almost as much for me as for them, in terms
of trying to make sense of the last 22 years and bringing it to a close in
a proper way."

"I'm much less worried about being intensely private," he added. "I'm sure
a lot of that is to do with being outed - it changes everything."

Michael acknowledged embarrassment of a different kind over the early days
of his career.

"I was the perpetrator of many fashion crimes in the `80s," he said.

The singer's last album, "Patience," topped the British charts last year.
"I'm still going to be making music," he said.

Michael's film is showing outside the main competition at the Berlin
festival, which ends Sunday.

Deep Inside Hollywood: Wham! It's a George Michael movie!

by Romeo San Vicente

February 9, 2005

The pop star that no one bothered to notice was gay -- even after that "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" video -- is now the subject of a no-holds-barred documentary.
The film is called "George Michael: A Different Story," and it stars the iconic '80s heartthrob as tour guide to his own career. Already seen on British television, the movie recently hit the big screen at the Berlin Film Festival and should be making the festival rounds in the States soon enough.

In the film, Michael visits childhood haunts, talks for the first time about his family and touches on painful recent memories. (His partner was gravely ill with AIDS while Michael performed at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert.)

The testimonial lineup includes Sir Elton John, Boy George, Mariah Carey and Simon Cowell.

Wham!-obsessives will be thrilled to know that Michael is reunited on-camera with former singing partner Andrew Ridgely for the first time in nearly 20 years.

Do you like George Michael’s version of Roxanne?
George is one of my favourite singers. I thought the song was ultimately successful. Different from mine. I did my version of his Wake Me Up, but nobody liked it.

ELTON: I'M STILL STANDIN' BY FEUD

Feb 3 2005

By Fiona Cummins

THE feud between Elton John and George Michael shows no sign of abating
after both stars agreed to film charity sketches for TV's Little Britain -
but on different days.

An insider revealed they were desperate not to bump into each other during
recording of the one-off special in aid of Comic Relief.

Although their sketches will appear only seconds apart on the show they
filmed at opposite ends of the week.

The insider said: "They're still angry with each other and it's probably
just as well they didn't come face-to-face."

George, 41, fell out with Elton, 57, after he branded his album Patience
"disappointing".

The comedy special is screened next month. In it George meets
wheelchair-bound Andy for tea and Elton is interviewed by gay Daffyd.

NAT'S BRIT OF LUCK

Doh! Bungling Brits bosses have added Natasha Bedingfield, The Streets,
Keane, George Michael and the Sugababes to the nominations list of Best
British Single at the Brit Awards after realising they had made a calendar
cock-up.

A spokesman said: "It has been brought to organisers' attention that the
2004 chart year comprised 53 weeks rather than 52.

"To avoid any ambiguity, and in the interest of accuracy and fair play, the
Brits committee has decided to expand the nominations list to ten.

"A happy side-effect of this decision is that the British Single
nominations now look more exciting than ever."

Nat and the others join original nominees Band Aid 20, Jamelia, LMC vs. U2,
Shapeshifters and Will Young in the running for a gong at Earl's Court on
February 9.

Chili Peppers make Top 100
2.33PM, Wed Dec 29 2004

US Rockers, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have entered the record books as one of the 100 most successful recording artists of all time.

The Guinness British Hit Singles and Albums book ranks artists every year according to how many weeks they have spent in the UK singles and albums charts.

The likes of Madonna, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles and Elvis Presley are already in the top 100.

This year, the Chilies are the only new entry - making it to number 97.

Those who have a chance of getting in next year include Britney Spears, Eminem, Westlife, Radiohead and Iron Maiden, according to the list's compilers.

Spandau Ballet has fallen out of the top 100, while Michael Jackson is the highest climber as he is now number eight.

Elvis Presley still tops the list having notched up 2463 weeks in the UK singles and albums charts - more than the time he was alive for.

The acts which have climbed the list include The Stereophonics to 84, The Corrs to 89; Guns n' Roses to 74; and Robbie Williams to 43.

George Michael has risen to 56; REM to 32; Cher to 68 and Simply Red to 26.

Those to fall down the list include Electric Light Orchestra to 54; Bruce Springsteen to 47; Blur to 91; and Mike Oldfield to 48.

British Hit Singles & Albums editor David Roberts said: "It's very rare to get new acts breaking into the Top 100, so this really is an incredible achievement".
