I first came to have a deep love of music around 1991/’92 as a
15 year-old.
I wasn’t particularly big into any one band or genre but one day
I happened to have
About £100 in my pocket and a desire to spend it on something
nice!
I came home from town with a cheap, hard-to-play, Hohner
acoustic guitar!
I had just left school and had found nothing better to do than
sit and learn to play!
Six months and several layers of finger-skin later, I had
mastered a few chords
and began to play some songs that I liked.
In 1992 Oliver Stone’s movie, “The Doors” came
out and I was dragged along to it by
a friend of mine, never having heard of them before.
I remember liking it a lot, probably because of the sex scenes,
which were hot for a 15 year-old!, but it was the music which
seeped into me
and which still affects me today. It was Jim Morrison and The Doors music
that got me into writing songs.
I started writing songs when I was about 18/19 and started to
look for a band
soon after. I managed to get into one, which we subsequently
called, “The End”,
as lead guitarist. What started off as an Oasis-like cover band
slowly developed,
perhaps due to my influence!, into a good, tight, six-piece,
Doors cover band.
We were on the scene for a few years but never had that many
gigs, eventually
breaking up over the usual band politics!
Another couple of failed cover band ventures later, I decided to
concentrate on
song writing and trying to become a published songwriter.
It’s hard to say what kind of songs I write as I’m influenced by
a lot more than just
The Doors. I like Blues, Jazz, Folk, Rock, Gospel, Pop, R&B
and combinations
of them so the inspiration for my songs comes from all over the
place..
I guess you could say my music is folksy, jazzy, bluesy,
occasionally rocky, easy-
listening and ballady!!, but I believe it to be original and
valid…..
