Discussion Questions Chapter 11

  1. They would have been inefficient because of the way each is configured. It would be easier to allow for transmission whenever necessary instead of fighting for the right to transmit.
  2. It takes too long to poll each station in the case of thousands of stations to see if they have any data to transmit.
  3. I think the CSMA/CD is a better approach to the problem because it tells them if a collision has occurred thus making them aware that they need to retransmit. It would allow them to re-send data faster since they know what has happened faster.
  4. It would help reduce the collisions taking place by not allowing them to transmit except in the correct time start.
  5. The combination of dynamically assigning and using the multiplexing methods together is a great idea. It will enable channels and other functions that are short and rare to be used randomly, while providing high traffic activities to carriers in dedicated subchannels.
