Chapter 6 (Pr.1, 3, 4, 5)

1.

The DS-1 format uses 23 channels which is 24 channels minus a special sync byte. Within each channel, 7 bits are used for data, with the eight being used to indicate whether the channel for that frame contains user data or system control data. With 7 bits per channel, and because each frame is repeated 8000 times per second, a data rate of 56 kbps can be provided per channel.

3.

A) 8*10*1200^2 = 115,200,000 * 10 = 1,152,000,000/8 = 144,000,000 = 144 MB

B) 2^n =1,000,000,000 n=30/3 10 bits

C) 8*10*1200^2 = 115,200,000 * 30 = 3,456,000,000/8 = 432,000,000 = 432/1.544 = 279.79sec

4.

  1. 443,520,000/8 = 55,440,000 = 55.4 MB
  2. 55,440,000/19200 = 23100 sec = 385 min = 6.41 hours

5.

30*6+1=181*8000=1.44Mb/sec
