 Founder honored by Post Office



 

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Founder Honored 
in Black Heritage Stamp Series
Dr. Ernest E. Just stamp On February 1, 1996 in Tower Auditorium-Ambulatory Care Building on the campus of Howard University Dr. Ernest E. Just will be become the 19th honoree in the U.S. Postal Service’s Black Heritage Stamp Series. The Stamp Dedication will take place at 11a.m. on February 1st. Founder Just , an internationally renown zoologist is known primarily for his research in marine biology. He also studied the fundamental role of the cell surface in the development of organisms. Founder Just taught at Howard University from 1907-1041 during which he served as the head of the department of physiology (1912-1941) and the head of the department of zoology (1912-1920). While at Howard he was an advisor to Oscar J. Cooper, Edgar A. Love and Frank Coleman, all undergraduates, and assisted in the founding of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. on November 17, 1911. In 1915 Founder Just became the first winner of the Spingarn Medal awarded by the NAACP. Founder Just died on October 27, 1941. The Just Stamp uses a Robert Scurlock photograph.
