Time to run my mouth again....Last night I went to the grocery store with my mom. Mom gets off work late and we needed a few things..so we go to Krogers (They are opened 24 hours). Let me set this up a little....mom works at a hospital..she gets off at midnight. She still had her uniform and name tag on now.
We get into the store and we are walking around getting the few things we needed and of course a few things we did not need. We are about half way through the store when we notice the rent-a-cop, no-life, security officer not only watching us like we were glowing, but following us around. He was not trying to hide it one bit he was watching us.
Now this was totally unprovoked. We did not do anything at all to even seem the least bit strange. We were not the only people in the store either (to tell the truth, there were quite a few other people in there). Even when we were standing at the checkout counter, he (along with his buddy at this time) were still standing there watching us (and pointing, etc at us too).
I have been going into that store at all hours of the day and night for more than eight years and I have not ever had any kind of problem. I have gone in there at about 2 am covered with grease head to toe after spending all day and night under the hood of a car. I have been in there when other people were so drunk/stoned/etc they could hardly stand up, much less walk. I have seen these same people pass out in there. I have seen groups of teenagers in there at about 4 am just kind of walking around. All of these people were not harassed in any way at all, yet I go in there with my mom, who just got off work, and we get this.
I don't know why I am saying this here other than it really pissed me off...and this is my page and I can express opinions on it if I want. I am just really tired of that kind of crap happening. I am not a rough looking person (anymore - I cut all my hair off almost three years ago..I expected it when I had hair half way down my back), and I don't know who to tell about it.

Ok...I am 25 years old. I grew up in the 1980s...I am part of what is generally called "Generation X". I hear all the talk on the news and other various forms of media about how we are the generation of "slackers"...about how we are not working up to our potential..etc etc etc. We have heard it all way too many times.
The one thing I hear more than any other ... which really makes me wonder...is "We are the generation which will not take responsibility for ourselves and our actions". Now think about this for a minute. Look at all the crap we have to deal with which was dumped on us by the last generation. We did not create AIDS nor are we the ones who spread it into the mainstream life....yet we are the ones who have to deal with it....I am a huge AIDS activist because I realize this truly is my problem...just like it is your problem...and everyone else's problem. The generation before us creates this problem....we have to deal with it...and if we don't deal with it..it is not going away.
We have become more aware of our environment and of our natural resources. I think this is great. I am all for cleaning up the air and water ... Yet we are still the generation of "slack"
I was listening to the radio when this Sprite commercial came on......it was this song with the lyrics "I am a total slacker". Why is a company glamorizing this concept? As if we are not looked down upon enough....our music...our styles...our general outlook of the future....we have corporate America pushing it down our throats? Excuse me...but there is something wrong with this picture.. And then you have "mom and dad" or better yet "gramma and grampa" hear this commercial....and their entire attitude toward us is reinforced. Kinda funny how ole "dad" or "grampa" just so happens to be the man I am about to talk to about going to work for.....
