How to set up a Sybase ODBC Connection

To access the ODBC SQL Server Setup dialog box

1.    From Control Panel, double-click the ODBC32 icon.

2.    The Data Sources dialog box appears, select System DSN,
       then Choose the Add button The Create New Data Source dialog box appears.

3.    From the Installed ODBC Drivers list, select sybase systen 11, and then choose finished.
       The ODBC Sybase Driver Setup dialog box appears.

The ODBC Sybase Driver Server Setup dialog box has the following options.

GENERAL TAB

Data Source Name
The name of the data source. For example, "Personnel Data."
NOTE this has to be the same name you used in DSEDIT

Description
Any thing you want to use to reference

Server Name
The server name you created in the DSEDIT

Database Name
The default data base your connecting to


Advanced Tab

Initialization String
You need to add the following value
set ansinull off

Application Using Threads needs to be checked off

Cursor Positioning for raise errors
0-default


Connection Tab

Server List
The name of the server you created in DSEDIT

Database List
the defult data base your connection will default to

Default Login ID
basicilt user name


the following options under this tab are not needed connect

Interfaces file
the path statment to the SQLini file
c:\sybase\ini\sql.ini
NOTE: not recomended to use

Workstation ID
the name you want to use to identife the connection

Charset

Language

directory Services Provider

Passwork Encryption

Performance Tab
Prepare Method 2-full

Fetch Array size 50

Select Method 1-Direct

Packet Size 0

Connection Cache 1
