Brian Baetz hails from the picturesque and often sleepy small town of Walkerton, Ontario, the seat of Bruce County. He completed bachelors and masters degrees in civil engineering from the University of Toronto, and then worked as a waste management engineer for Metro Toronto and the consulting firm of M.M. Dillon, Ltd. Brian then travelled south to Duke University, earning a PhD in environmental engineering and developing a love for ACC basketball. He then took up an appointment in the civil engineering department of McMaster University, and is now a Professor of Civil Engineering and a member of the teaching team for McMaster's innovative Engineering and Society programme. Brian has the distinct privilege and pleasure of supervising the members of the Sustainable Community Research Group, a group of rugged individualists who are unabashedly attempting to make this world a better place.
