Rich is a proud native of Owen Sound, Ontario (population 21,000), the jewel of Grey and Bruce counties. Rich attended McMaster University in 1990 to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering and Management which he completed in 1995. After working for a short time in the financial services industry (a very short time) and in Engineering Consulting, Rich returned to Mac to complete his Master of Engineering degree. During his Master's Rich was afforded an opportunity to work with Dr. Brian Baetz, who he collaborated with to develop a GIS-based tool for assessing the sustainability of municipal development as it relates to hard infrastructure. After graduating, he accepted a position with the City of Chilliwack, British Columbia as their Environmental Services Specialist. He was responsible for co-ordinating solid waste management (composting, landfilling and recycling) and some of the Fraser River Flood Protection studies. Rich returned to school (yet again) at Nipissing University in North Bay, Ontario to complete a Bachelor of Education and will be teaching Secondary Math for the Hastings-Prince Edward District School Board starting in September 2000. When Rich isn't applying for new jobs or moving he spends as much time as he can with his son John and his wife Michelle. He also enjoys travelling, playing basketball and constructing scale models. Although Rich has moved to a career in teaching, which is the best professional decision he has ever made, he still plans to stay involved in promoting sustainable municipal development and sustainable solid waste management as a volunteer in his community. |
