Scary Serial Fanmailer

Naia    The good thing about that e-mail address no longer forwarding; now Seiya can't sneak into it!  On the other hand, it does make fanmail easier to procrastinate. . .
*tosses Taiki her latest letter*  Looks like you've got a serial fanmailer here.  Be afraid!  Be very afraid!

Taiki    Come now, I'm sure she's not a stalker; she's just needy!

Naia    So is it okay to filter fanmail for "needy" people, or is that just too cruel?

Taiki    Hopefully I can answer any remaining questions she has, and maybe your dilemma will correct itself.

Hello, Taiki!  It's the fanfic writer again.  This is for you, and not Seiya and Yaten.  Keep them out of this, since I know they don't like me.

Taiki    It's not so much a matter of not liking you, as the monotony of answering the same fanmailer on the same topics over and again.  We like our fans, and we like answering fanmail; we just wish for greater variety in our fanmailers and their topics.

I have some questions for you.
1) You said that your glasses are a symbol of your intelligence.  Does this mean you believe the stereotype?

Taiki    It's common in the media for intelligent characters to wear glasses, which I assume is why I have them.  In her Materials Collection, Takeuchi-san said I wore glasses despite good vision.  But as Yaten pointed out, those pages were done during character development, and parts of them didn't survive into our final characters.  We don't know whether she changed her mind on that point or not.  Many readers of the manga think they're meant as reading glasses, and others think I'm meant to wear contacts when not wearing glasses.  The anime is even more ambiguous, using them in no discernible pattern, like a prop.  So the question of need may still be in the air.

Naia    But I hate people with good eyes who only wear glasses to look smart, so you'll always need them in my fics, no matter what she intended.

Taiki    To finally answer the question, intellectually I know the stereotype is false. . . but I still think I look more intelligent and sophisticated in glasses :-) .

2) Have you ever fainted?  If so, what was it like?  I need to know so I can write fainting parts in my stories better, since I have never done that myself.

Taiki    You know, I can't recall ever fainting before.  I imagine it would be similar to being knocked unconscious, however; everything goes black, and when you wake up you feel disoriented, with no idea where you are, how you got there, or how long you've been out.

3) How would you define a "stiff" personality?

Taiki    Well, I'd guess. . . *thinks* . . .a pretentious, uptight, conservative person with no sense of humour.

Do you think you have one?

Taiki    Actually, I was thinking more of Crane-san, the radio psychiatrist from that American sitcom.  I don't think I'm nearly as bad as he is.  *really glad Seiya and Yaten aren't here to disagree*

I wanted to clear up the "pairing you with Chibi-Usa" stuff.  That pairing would certainly work very well in my stories, since I write you as an 11-year-old.  Also, I didn't think age mattered that much, since the pairing I was thinking of was a friendship pairing, not a romantic one.

Taiki    Age matters a lot to most children, even in friendship.  They see themselves as maturing very quickly, so someone even a couple of years younger might seem babyish.  That girl looked younger than eleven to me, at least in the pictures Zifu-san showed me.  I don't know whether an eleven-year-old would want to befriend her, especially me.  She looks very bright and cheerful, where I've been dark and serious my entire life, even as a child.

And doesn't Chibi-Usa like Setsuna, who is a lot older than any of the Senshi?  I think Chibi-Usa would be a great friend for you!

Taiki    It's different; children and adults get along much better than children of different ages do.  Adults think children are kawaii, but older children usually just think younger children are annoying.

Bye, and get Seiya's eyes checked!  She might need glasses!  Tell her it would make her look even cooler!

Taiki    I'm going soon myself; I want to clear up once and for all whether I really need my glasses or not.  Maybe I'll drag her along when I do.
