Samba De Amigo review by L0RDTemplar 1/21/01

Arrrrrrrriba!!!
Sega took a daring step by bringing Samba to America. This game was likely to receive no success, because it was just so weird. So while Japanese games where bouncing around to the beats, we were stuck with lame sport games. But they brought it, and sold better than expected!

Samba De Amigo is a dancing game. It can be used with some expensive maracas controllers, or with normal controllers. The real magic of the game is the maracas though. The game calls for you to shake the maracas at different spots on the screen as it displays. And can get hard pretty quick. It also has you do poses from time to time.

The Music in this game is all Latin groove. Some remixes of rock songs are in there to. The music is all playfull, and makes you want to dance. And ranges from "La Bamba" to "Cup of life". Even if you don't like Ricky Martin, you'll be having to much fun to care about it.

The graphics in the game are the little dots on the screen, and the
background. If you have friends over, they wont mind waiting there turn as they can watch the dancing characters and vibrant colors. The better you do, the crazier the background gets. So not only is it fun to play, it's fun to look at.

The Maracas controllers cost about $80 bucks, and are extremely hard
to find. But they are worth it. They are great for accuracy to, but sometime they screw up. They have yet to break on me, but you should probably be careful with them anyway.

The multiplayer modes in samba are fair enough. You can just play the
original or arcade mode for fun. Or you can play what else the game has for you. The battle mode lets who ever makes the most shakes in a row, win. The couples mode lets you see how compatible you are by trying to both be accurate. The party mode has a bunch of mini games, like whack a hole and pose.

The game has many challenges for you to beat, which is getting scores
and perfects on certain modes. These are extremely challenging, and unlock new songs and maraca sounds for you to play with. You can also download songs from Sega's samba site. All these topped with multiplayer add to infinite replayability.

Samba is a game that anyone can play, and no one can hate. Even adults will try this game. If your short on cash, think of it as an exercise machine, as it is quite the work out. But don't get it without the maracas, that's like a sin. Samba has been deemed the ultimate party game by many people, and is definitely something you are going to want to get your maraca-shaking hands on.
