Final Fantasy Tactics is by far my favorite
game. Think Battle Ogre Tactics with more control over your army,
more fantasy based story line, and even more secret characters.
Right off it starts you off in a battle, pitting you against
petty nights. The pace picks up as you move to the 2nd fight,
where you and your enemy are equally matched. There are also
NPCs, which always look the same and have classes specifically
there own (like Mustadio and the Engineer class).
One of the greatest aspects of the game
is Character Classes. You start out with simple squires and chemists,
and then move on to knights, archerers, wizards, etc. It also
depends on your current class. If you train a squire, he/she
will develop into a warrior, but if you train a chemist, your
fighter will grow into a great magician. Also, male and females
have special differences. A male trained as a wizard will become
a bard someday; where as, a female warrior will advance to a
dancer. Then there's always the mime...
Graphics wise, they aren't too great. The
characters look like they were pulled from Secret of Mana. The
summon magic looks like cardboard cutouts, but the regular magical
spells offer a brilliant fireworks display.
Finally, there are a slew of weapons to
choose from. Each class has a special weapon they are good with,
such as knights using swords or ninjas using knives. Some even
have special properties, like randomly casting a spell or stopping
an enemy in its tracks. Also, the story is intense, but I'm not
giving away a speck of it!
Overall, Tactics is a killer game. I've
played through 4 times and am still learning stuff.
