Rival Schools

Company: Capcom
Game type: fighting
Platform: PSX
Rival schools is an interesting game with
an interesting plot. A school ties to concur Japan. hmmm. Well,
its a lot funner than it is intriguing. The Street Fighter style
fighting gives it a good kick in the mouth, however it is much
more complex because of all the counter attacks and such.
Gameplay is awesome. You have 16 characters
(6 teams) to chose from. Each school has 3 students, of which
you can pick 2 ( Justice highschool gives you 2 teams of 2 however),
or you can mix and match schools. If you stick with one school,
however, the game will follow a set story.
Graphics are all right. everything is polygonal-looking.
There are some killer anime movies, like the intro, and the indings
are in manga form, but fighting itself is pretty square... literally.
And to put it in few words, the music and voices are annoying
as crap.
The real attention getter is the large
amount of skill needed to play. you will find yourself spending
hours training on the evolution disk training (later) trying
to master the 24 techniques, not to mintion each character has
at least two super moves (burning vigor) and 6 throw techniques.
The last notable aspect is the evolution
disk. Disk on is simply Arcade mode, but the evolution disk is
specifically for 2 player action. Tournament mode, league mode,
cooperate, and 4 or 5 more different ways to play make it a great
party game, and if you complete the game in single mode you?ll
get MORE games and secret characters.
Overall, this is defiantly a must have
for you hard core fighters. Now go protect your school!!!
