I'm putting thought-speech in [brackets] because apparently the other marks are unable to be seen in certain places. And in parenthesis will be the dimension each charactern is from. A is where Visser Three isn't an Andalite and B is where he is.
Between Dimensions
Tobias (A)
My name is Tobias. You think you know our story? No, that's not it. We aren't fighting the Yeerks. We're being slaughtered by them. See, we all went around the construction site because Marco's friend Corey wanted to go around. Rachel and I saw the lights and went into the construction site, where we got the power to morph. So it's 3 against an entire war. Why 3? Because we found an Andalite named Ax, that's why there are 3.
Well, none of us knew at the time that Corey was Visser Three. You think Visser Three is an Andalite, because in one dimension he is. This Visser Three is one of the two wizards ever made into a controller. In our dimension we have wizards, but not many. Our friend Andrew who is also a wizard told us a lot about the Yeerks, and he's helped us out a lot.
Well, Rachel, Ax, Andrew and I were spying on Visser Three as flies and we heard that she could travel through dimensions.
"I'll be back soon, but don't worry, I know what I'm doing." She said to Marco. Yes, in this dimension Marco, Jake, and Cassie are controllers but they don't have the power to morph. Corey somehow knew about us so she changed the past. But she didn't stop Rachel and I from going into the site. And instead of being called 'Animorphs,' we're called the 'Renegades.'
"I hope you do Corey. I don't really want to lose you." Marco told her.
"Lose me? Come on, Marco. I'm a wizard."
"You're right. I'll see you when you get back." We all got on Visser Three's head and waited. But I didn't see four flies, I saw three. She uttered a series of words and a worldgate opened. She waved goodbye to Marco and jumped in. When the wind stopped rushing and we could fly off of her head she was in town, a town very similar to ours. But it felt a little more peaceful.
[Rachel, what is she doing? And where's Andrew?] I asked, going to demorph.
[I don't know the answer to either of those questions.] She replied. Ax, Rachel and I demorphed and Ax and I morphed to human. Then we all walked down the street.
"Hey, isn't this the way to Cassie's barn?" Rachel asked. I nodded, not knowing why we'd want to go there. But from inside the barn I heard people talking.
"What's our next insane mission going to be, Fearless Leader?" Someone asked.
"That sounded like Marco! Why would a Controller be there?" I asked.
"Erek has given us some valuable information..." Someone else said. He continued talking but I didn't hear what he said.
"Jake?! What's going on around here?" Rachel asked.
"I wish I could tell you." Ax said, not stuttering for once.
"Come on, let's go in there." Rachel said, dragging me and Ax behind her. She charged into the barn and made us follow.
"Rachel, I can walk on my own you know!" I said as we walked into the barn.
"Okay, sorry." She let go of my arm, but we were already in the barn and the little group was staring at us.
"Who are you?!" The other Rachel asked.
"Hold on. Jake, Marco and Cassie are here?" I asked.
"Tobias?! Rachel? But you're already here!" Cassie said. I frowned at her and looked to someone else for answers.
"Hey, why wouldn't Marco, Cassie and I be here?" Jake asked us.
"Well, because you're supposed to be controllers." Rachel replied.
"Rachel, notice how there are two Rachels here? And two of me? And two of Ax? Wait, where is Ax?" I looked around, but didn't find him.
"I'm right here." He replied. He was staring at the other Ax who was in the back of the room.
"What's your point Tobias?" Our Rachel asked.
"Well, maybe the others aren't controllers here. Remember, Corey might not have changed things yet."
"What are you talking about?" Jake asked. We sat down to explain.
Visser Three (A)
My name is Corey. Well, that's my human name. Or my wizard name. You pick. I didn't belong in this world, but I had to talk to Visser three. My host, as usual, was silent. She wanted to be a controller, so she wouldn't have to deal with her powers. She doesn't want to be captive anymore, though, so she's going to start fighting against me soon. I can feel it. If you ask me, she's too scared to handle her powers. So I put a shield up around myself and warped into the room where Visser Three was.
"Hello, Visser Three." I said.
[Who are you?] He asked, ready to call on his guards.
"Where I come from, I am Visser Three. I'm from another dimension." I told him.
[Really. Well, why are you here then?]
"I have an offer for you." I said. "It has to do with the Andalite Bandits..."
[Really?]
"Yes. They're actually humans who got the power to morph by your good friend Elfangor." The last part I said sarcastically.
[Humans!] He sneered.
"Yes, humans. Now, I have an offer that you can't refuse. I can make it so these humans don't have the power to morph, if you like."
[Why would you want to help us?] I quickly activated a shield around myself.
"Because apparently you can't handle the responsibility of taking over Earth with them around." He got angered and tried to slice off my head, but his tailblade just stopped at the edge of my shield and I laughed.
[Fine, do whatever you plan to do and then go away.] I set to work immediately. I grinned and left. I went to an empty room and started the spell that would allow me to travel back in time. I knew the date, and the time when they first met.
A time gate opened and I stepped into it. I went through and was standing in the restroom of a mall. I walked out of there into the mall and found an arcade. Dressed as a normal person should be, I found Marco, one of the future Animorphs, and walked over to him. His friend Jake was there too, and Tobias was just walking over. Good, this will be easy, I thought.
"Hello Marco. Hi Jake, and Tobias." I greeted, trying to hide my hatred for them.
You could kill them. Why don't you just do that? My host asked.
Because it's just easier to let them suffer being controllers than to let them die.
"Hi. Do we know you?" Jake asked. Marco looked at me strangely, and Tobias leaned up against the nearest video game in the arcade we were in.
"I should introduce myself. I'm...I'm Christi." I said. I couldn't let them know my real name.
"Hi. What do you want?" Marco demanded.
"I was wondering if any of you would like to challenge me at a video game? I practically own them." I lied. I could make myself a better player in a matter of seconds so they would believe me.
"We'll just see how good you are after playing against Marco the Magnificent." Marco joked. I grinned and he pointed out the game. I said a few words and went over to the game.
"Cruisin' world, huh? You into racing games?" I asked. He didn't say anything, but he put in a quarter and then I did, and then we started playing. Of course, I ended up winning. He dug into his pocket for another quarter.
"All out." He said. I shrugged.
"Me too." Then he started to go home when he met up with Jake and Tobias. Then Jake's cousin and her friend, Rachel and Cassie, came over.
"Hi guys. Hey, who are you?" Cassie asked.
"I'm Krysty." I replied.
"Nice to meet you."
"Hey Christi, want to walk home with us?" Marco offered. I considered it for a moment and spoke a mental spell.
"Nah, that's okay. My...sister was going to pick me up here."
"Well, okay then. Bye."
"Bye" I said. The five of them walked off as I activated the spell I had put on Marco and Jake. Now they would be like pawns when I wished it, which was exactly what I wanted. I then followed them home.
Rachel (A)
My name is Rachel. But you probably know that already. Well, it was kind of weird seeing myself sitting beside Cassie talking about the Yeerks. I mean, in my dimension Tobias, Ax and I are the only Animorphs. Looked to me like Visser Three aimed to do that to this world too. We had to stop her.
"Listen very carefully, okay? Tobias, Ax, and I are from an alternate dimension. We were spying on our Visser Three when she opened a worldgate and we got pulled into it with her. Now, on our world Cassie, Jake, and Marco are controllers. Got it?" I said for the tenth time. The others nodded.
[I do not understand why this alternate Visser Three would want to come to our world.] Their Ax said.
"She's trying to destroy the group you guys have! I'll bet she already set some spell to work and you're all being diverted from the construction site now!" Our Tobias answered. This was getting kind of confusing.
[And how can we stop her from doing this?] Their Ax asked again.
"Either we kill her before she can, or we get our friend Andrew to help us." I told him.
"Let's go kill us some Visser Three then!" The other Rachel said, jumping up.
"Stop it, Rachel!" I snapped. "She's a wizard, duh! She always has some kind of protective shield around her!"
"Well, that makes things a little more complicated." Rachel said. I felt like I was talking to myself. She had said the same thing I would have said in her position.
"Rachel!" Our Tobias said. Both of us looked over. "No, not you! Her." Tobias said, pointing to me.
"What?" I asked.
"How do we talk to Andrew?" He asked.
"I don't know." I mumbled. "Maybe there's some way we can."
"Rachel!" I heard. It was a voice in my head. No, not in my head. It was coming from my...my sleeve? I looked down and noticed a small intercom attached to the sleeve of my long-sleeved morphing outfit.
"What?" I asked.
"Look at the intercom, Rachel. It's Andrew!"
"Andrew?! What do you want?"
"To help you, of course! You left me behind, and I can't track Visser Three's wormhole!"
"Well, you got a plan?" I asked.
"Nope, not yet. But maybe if she opened a time gate I can send you back through it." He said. His voice was getting crackly in the intercom.
"Well, send us through then!" I said.
"Just give me a few minutes okay? You'll know when the gate opens in front of you. But only you, our Ax, and our Tobias can go. Otherwise there could be serious consequences."
"Okay, fine. Just start working on it okay?"
"Yeah, sure." Then the intercom on my wrist disappeared and we sat down to wait for Andrew to do his magic.
Visser Three (A)
I was following the future Animorphs. It was actually pretty boring. They were talking about normal kid stuff. Video games, which superhero could beat which, stuff like that. In a few minutes, their lives should have changed forever, but that wouldn't happen while I was around.
They stopped at the edge of the construction site.
"Want to go through?" Tobias asked. I made Marco and Jake pause. But the dratted girls had to spoil it.
"I don't mind going through instead of around. Do you Cassie?" The blond, Rachel, said.
"Actually..." Cassie trailed off.
"Let's go around." I said for Jake. "I mean, my parents would kill me if I went through there. Besides, who knows who hangs out inside at night?"
"You're right, Jake. Maybe we should go around." ’Marco’ said.
"Since when did you two become so scared?" Rachel mocked. Stupid girl! She was about to ruin my plan. But I thought of something to say quickly.
"Well, I'll get in trouble either way and I'd kind of like to stay alive to face it so I'd rather go around." ’Jake’ said.
"Okay, fine. We'll go around." Rachel said sadly, like she wanted to go through. I grinned. My plan had worked and the Animorphs would never exist.
Rachel (A)
Yeah, yeah, you know I'm Rachel. Anyways, the Animorphs were starting to forget everything they knew about the interstellar battle they were fighting in.
"Damnit! She's already gotten to them." I said.
"Come on, Andrew!" Tobias muttered. Just then a worldgate opened in front of us. Technically, it was a time gate, but we didn't care. Tobias walked through it, and so did Ax. I looked at the Animorphs and ran through after them, before the gate closed.
I looked around me. I was in the mall, wearing the same clothes that the other Rachel on the other side of the hallway was wearing.
"Tobias, Ax, there they are." I said, pointing to the group. "Ax, go over there and distract that Rachel would you?"
"Okay Rachel." He said, being in human morph. He went over and talked to the other Rachel. Then he directed her to a store and I ran towards the small group.
"I'm back." I said.
"Hey Rachel." Cassie said. I grinned and put my hand on her shoulder. Then I began to acquire her. She teetered backwards for a few seconds.
"Cassie, you okay?" I asked.
"Um...yeah. I just got dizzy for a minute there." She replied. I looked over to where Ax had gone. He was coming back.
"I'll be back in just a minute, okay?" I asked. Then I ran over to where Tobias was and motioned that everything was going according to plan. I then went into the restroom nearby and began to combine my DNA with Cassie's and morphed it. I walked out of the restroom and Tobias handed me an outfit in a bag. It was slightly too big but I don't think anyone would have noticed.
"Rachel, I don't really recognize you." Tobias said grinning.
"That's the point." I told him. I then looked over at the small group and finally saw Visser Three. I walked over to her. She was walking to the group when I distracted her.
"Hi." I said, with her trying to get away from me.
"Hello." She mumbled.
"I'm Angela. Who're you?"
"I'm...Krysty. Nice to meet you. Now could you please go somewhere?"
"Sheesh, you don't have to sound so stuck-up." I told her.
"Stuck-up? We'll just see whose so stuck up." She looked at her watch. "I guess I can play you at a video game before I have to go do something. I challenge you to any game of your choosing." I grinned and walked into the arcade where the Animorphs stood, hoping they wouldn't think I looked kind of familiar. I picked out the longest game in the arcade and started playing. I was pretty good, actually, and we ended up in a tie. Then we played a second round, and a third. I looked at the clock. I had been in morph for a little over half an hour.
She won the third round.
"Oh, crap!" I said with fake disappointment. I looked over and noticed that the group wasn't there anymore. They had already gone through the site by now!
"Well, I hope you're happy because I missed what I was supposed to do."
"Oh, I'm sorry Krysty! Or would you rather me call you by your real name...Corey?"
"How did you know that's my name?" She asked suspiciously. I went over and whispered in her ear.
"Visser Three."
"It's you! You...you Renegade! How did you get here?" She hissed.
"Followed you through the worldgate, and then through the time gate you opened." I told her, grinning.
"Who are you?"
"What? You don't remember your ex-friend Rachel? Well, we were friends, before you had to become a controller."
"But...but...oh, a morph!" She began to activate a shield, but then she stopped. Suddenly I was in a field. I was demorphed.
"I thought we should take this outside, make it a little easier for me." She said. Then she activated her shield and began using magic. And so the battle began...
Cassie (B)
I'm Cassie. Not the controller, the Animorph. Everything was getting confusing around me. I mean, you don't exactly see people from other dimensions every day. Even worse, I was forgetting everything I had learned over the few years that I had been an Animorph about the Yeerks and stuff.
"What...what's going on?" Rachel asked. I shrugged. Then I looked over at Tobias. Suddenly I blinked and he was a human again.
"What the...uh-oh." He said.
"Guys, try to morph!" Jake said. We all tried to morph to some small animal, except for Ax. I started to morph wolf. I was halfway into the morph when it suddenly reversed. Then Ax was gone.
"Something's going on there." I mumbled. Jake nodded. The other-dimension Rachel and Tobias had gone through a time gate and had taken Ax with them. That was about all I remembered, though. Things were fading fast, and I knew that I wasn't far off from being a controller because things were changing before my eyes.
Rachel (A)
Visser Three shot a fireball at me while I was trying to morph.
"ARRRUMPH!" I said, but my mouth had already morphed to bear.
"What was that?" The Visser asked snidely.
[I SAID that what you did wasn't fair!]
"Face it, Rach, life ain't fair."
[Well I knew that when you came along and screwed everything up!] I snapped.
"Ooh, temper, temper! You shouldn't be talking bad talk to me considering you're in the bad position here."
[Oh, this coming from one of the all-talk-no-work Vissers?] She shot another fireball at me and I easily dodged it. But then she started to shake.
"AAAAH!!" She shouted, and I knew her host, the real Corey, my friend, was fighting back.
Real Corey (A)
The Yeerk was trying to kill Rachel, and Rachel was trying to kill both the Yeerk and me. I couldn't take the Yeerk trying to kill a good friend to I started to resist. See, wizards are stronger than normal hosts so we fight back better.
You'll never win, you pathetic excuse for a wizard! He told me.
Shut up! I shouted.
You can't even save yourself! How could you save your friend?
Shut up, shut up, shut up, shut up, shut up!!! I screamed over and over.
"Shut up!!!" I realized that I was yelling out loud.
[That's it Corey! I know you can do it! Fight! Beat that pathetic slug! YOU CAN DO IT!] Rachel cheered.
"GET! OUT! OF! MY! HEAD....NOW!!!" I shouted. I started to shake and then the Yeerk took over again.
Pathetic! You're just a weak human! Weak, weak, weak! Your parents would be ashamed of your pathetic weakness!
Oh yeah? How pathetic is this?! I said a few words and deactivated my shield for a minute.
"Rachel! Knock us out NOW!!!" She didn't say anything more, she just ran straight at us. The last thing I remembered was a sharp pain on the back of my head and blackness.
Rachel (A)
I pinned Visser Three/Corey on the ground. Her head hit a rock and I realized that I had knocked her out. I demorphed and realized that we were almost across from the mall, with only a line of trees separating us from it.
"Rachel?" I jumped and spun around. It was Tobias.
"Tobias! Don't do that!" I said.
"What happened?" He asked.
"I think...I think she's knocked out." I told him.
"Should we tie her up?" I nodded, but didn't move. I just stared at her. Then I started to pick her up and I noticed the Yeerk crawling out of her ear. I lifted her head and the Yeerk plopped onto the ground. I then stepped on it, squishing the life out of the evil parasite.
"Is she okay?" Tobias asked.
"I don't know." I pulled my hand away from the back of her head. It was covered with blood. Her face was pale, and she was barely breathing. Her breath getting slower by the minute.
"No..."I whispered.
"Oh God, is she..."
"No! She can't...Corey, you can't..." I trailed off. The person who had been like Melissa on the world I was on...my best friend...she was dying. I don't think I could have had a better friend. Cassie and I weren't hanging out much any more, since she was a controller and had denounced me as not being her friend. I tried to wipe off the blood from the back of her head, but it wouldn't stop flowing. She was going to die, and I couldn't do anything to stop it.
"Rachel, is there any way we can save her?"
"I don't know!" I shouted. She opened her eyes.
"Rachel? Rachel, I'm free. Thanks. Thanks for everything..." The said, grinning. Then she went limp in my arms. Her face was chalk white, and her skin was cold.
"Oh, God. Corey, no! Tobias, it...it's my fault! It's all my fault!" I cried. I put down her head and stood up. I looked to Tobias for comfort and he embraced me.
"Rachel, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." He said. I soon found myself looking at him, into his thoughtful, distant eyes. And I never felt more at home. I hugged him and we stood like that for a few minutes. Then I let go of him and started a fire for the night. Corey had said she wanted to be let go somewhere she had never been before. So we cremated her and threw the ashes in the little creek far into the woods, in another dimension.
"Let's find Ax and maybe we can go home." I suggested. Tobias nodded and we put out the fire. Then we left the forest and went to back to find Ax. He wasn't at the mall when we looked.
"Where is he?" Tobias asked.
"I think...I think I know." I stuttered, and directed Tobias towards the construction site where we had gained the power to morph. Surely enough, Ax was there. He stood where his brother's ship once stood. It was now gone, disintegrated by Dracon beams. But he stood there to honor his brother. Tobias and I stood with him. He knew who Elfangor really was, his father. It must have been hard for him to be there. I went over to Ax and put my hand on his shoulder.
"Ax...let's go home. Or let's at least get back to our time." I suggested.
[Yes...that may be a good idea.] He said, heaving a mental sigh. Suddenly another time gate opened and we went through it. We were back in Cassie's barn, with the Animorphs waiting for us.
"Thanks, I guess." Jake said, coming up to us.
"How did you do it?" I looked over at Tobias, about to tell him to demorph. He was just beginning to. Then I looked over at the other Rachel, my doppelganger.
"I had to kill her." I mumbled.
[You should be honored.] Their Ax said.
"I had to kill the real Corey! She was free when she died for God's sake! I had to kill my best friend!" I shouted at him.
"Rachel, don't overreact." Jake told me. I calmed down a little and looked over at my world's Ax and Tobias.
"Guys, are you ready to go home?" They nodded in their strange ways. I blinked and suddenly I was home, face to face with Marco ,the controller. Only he wasn't a controller.
"Hey guys. Did you...did you kill her?" He asked. Jake and Cassie stood in the corner. Jake had his arm around Cassie. I nodded slowly.
"I had to. Marco, she died free. The Yeerk crawled out of her ear and I stepped on it." I said, trying to comfort him.
"I guess she got her wish then." Marco mumbled.
"What?"
"She said one day that she knew about the war, and if she was ever a controller that she wanted to die free." He said, a tear falling down his cheek. I started crying, too. Marco had lost a comrade, and I had lost a dear friend.
People say that you never know how much you'd miss someone until they're gone. Well, people ought to believe the ones who say that. Because it's true. I carry the memory of Corey with me wherever I go, and I know that's what she wants. I think she helps me every now and then, somehow. In spirit, she's with me or Marco, I don't know which. But in body, she's in another dimension, or on this one, or between the two.
The End
