Its oceans, lakes and rivers had been polluted beyond repair, the ozone layer had vanished as a wisp into the void of space, and all but the life forms essential to the survival of human life had been erradicated. Humankind saw no other option than to evacuate the planet. The governments of Earth united together and sent forth thousands of colony ships. Half way through the evacuation a global civil war broke out. No more spacecraft left Earth. All contact with the mother planet ceased. Some of these modern day Arks made it, others didn't. Those colonies that did survive eventually flourished with the aid of freindly alien species. That was seven hundred years ago. The descendants of those original colonists call themselves New Terrans. The planet from which they came is all but forgotten. Theirs is an empire of peace. But all good things must come to an end.
