Anubis is the grandson of the Ancient One, a fact never revealed in the American translation. Also, he and Kyra are kin, although I'm unsure of the exact relation.
He was the youngest of the Dynasty Warlords, roughly 1,000 years old. He was also the most powerful of them. Then he left the armor to take up the Staff. This eventually lead to his death, however, when he freed Kyra from Badoman's control.
*sigh* Seems to be a law of anime that all the cute guys be either taken or dead.
