Info - Checklist: Supplies

  • A cage with a flood space of at least 16 x 25 inches with a bedding pan that is 4-6 inches deep, and a grated metal or solid plastic top.

  • Sleeping quarters made of wood or fiber.

  • Three hoppers, one for hay, a second for other foods, and the third for greens.

  • Sawdust (No cedar shavings!) or biodegradable organic bedding.  under this, a layer of cat litter to help relieve odor.  If your cavy starts nibbling on the litter, use organic materials.

  • Food bowls made from glazed pottery or porcelain.

  • Water bottle with sipper tube.

  • Comb and brush for grooming -- especially for longhaired guinea pigs.

  • Cage furnishings should include a rough stone to keep the nails short, small branches to chew on, and a flower pot to hide in or to climb on.
