The Jedi Knights are the protectors of the Galaxy. They proctected the Old Repbulic under the Jedi Councial and proctect the New Repbublic under Luke Skywalker. Legend says the the earliest Jedi Knights were Philosophers and that the Order of Jedi Knights may have bagun on Ossus, but nobody really knows. The Jedi never really had problems with the Sith until 5000 BANH. The Jedi worked very hard and with the help of the Republic managed to drive the sith away for a time peroid. Perhaps the best known would be Jedi Master Arca Jeth. Approximately 3996 BANH a Sith Lord, Ulic-Qel-Droma, somehow had his ability to use the force stripped from him by an old friend, Nomi Sunrider. And to this day no one understands how she was able to wipe Ulic's power from him. Several Mellenia later a Dark Jedi was banished by the Jedi Council to Dathomire. Here she bagan a new bread of Jedi called Withces and Sith called Nightsisters. The Jedi grew overtime and greatly expanded. Then approximatley 50-18 years BANH the Jedi were destryoed by two Sith Lords, Emperor Palpatine and his apprentice Darth Vadar. But Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker was able to stop them. Luke had many traniees at his academy on Yavin 4. So bringing about a new bread of Jedi Knights.
