Assimilated by the Borg while The Raven, the ship her family was on was travelling towards the Delta Quadrent. It is suspected that they were the first Humans assimilated into the Borg Collective.

In a mission fronted by Captain Janeway, an alliance was forged between Voyager and the Borg. She would help them defeat Species 8472 in return for safe passage through Borg space. In that alliance Seven of Nine was designated to aide the Voyager crew onboard their own ship. When the Borg Cube and other ships were destroyed by Species 8472, Seven of Nine's link to the collective was severed. Janeway, in a decision then contradictory to what the young Borg wanted, decided to keep her on board Voyager, and try to reassociate her into individuality.
