NotesThis species of supernatural humanoid is distantly related to the Ogre and the Magadon. Averaging about 8 feet in height and normally weighing in excess of 300 lbs, these creatures are obviously inhuman, having wide, shark-like mouths and webbed, three-fingered claws. Most Hafgryr claim to be direct descendants of the monster Grendel, from the saga of Beowulf. Originally found only in Northern Europe, Hafgryr have stalked humanity across the globe, and now exist in almost every major city, though they prefer the isolation of the countryside.Driven by a consuming hatred of mankind, Hafgryr are savage carnivores who delight in snatching the unwary from dark streets and dismembering them before devouring them completely. They are genderless, asexually producing live young in batches of 8 to 12. Infant Hafgryr are capable of hunting from birth, and are no less vicious than their parent. Hafgryr are poor parents, abandoning their young immediatly after birth to fend for themselves. They have no society or culture and are extremely territorial with other Hafgryr. HauntsDue to a mild vulnerability to sunlight, Hafgryr typically prefer dark places, either underground or well protected from the light of day. Their lairs are usually damp and cool, preferably with a small body of water close by (Hafgryr are excellent swimmers and enjoy water).AbilitiesHafgryr are unsubtle and brutal creatures with no real patience for the Way. Though they can project fear into the minds of their opponents, they generally prefer just to use brute force and rip their enemies to shreds. The most powerful of Hafgryr have exhibited the power to cause large numbers of people to fall deeply asleep.TerminationThough corporeal and vulnerable to normal weapons, Hafgryr are extremely hard to kill. Their dense muscles and leathery skin give them a considerable amount of natural armour, and nothing less than a shotgun blast is likely to injure them. Hafgryr are never seen out during the day, and have a mild vulnerability to sunlight. |
