Now we return back in time just before the enlistment of John in the forces. Carl, Carmen and him, high school graduates, decide to enlist. John's father doesn`t want him to do so, but enlistment is a constitutional right of all "civilians". So Johnnie gets to be on the Mobile Infantry, the only choice left for him in his preferences list, it was his last choice. Carmen will become a pilot and Carl will be in research and development. In this chapter there is also a philosophy course with Jean Dubois, one of John's high school teachers.
