Saturday the 26th: Regional Trip to NASA/Johnson Space Center. For eight years, Region Three has been gathering at Space Center Houston for fun This year we decided to do something special. Have our trip during the same weekend as JSC’s Open House and the Ballunar Liftoff Festival on Saturday, August 26, 2000.
For folk unfamiliar with the event, one day a year the Johnson Space Center opens up their facilities to educate the public.
Many buildings and programs unavailable during the normal Space Center Houston tours are accessible. Also the displays and hand on exhibits put on by JSC employees, not tour guides. So if you have questions, you can ask the experts. The center does special things, like freebies, astronaut signings, demonstrations, and live music. It is a space junkies dream and for free. In the past, Buildings such as Public Affairs, Space and Space Station Simulator, Machine Manufacturing, Aerospace
Testing and Simulations, Ellington Field, and Mission Control. For JSC’s Open House information check http://openhouse.jsc.nasa.gov.
The Ballunar Liftoff is a three day festival starting on that Friday, but gears up on Saturday. They have contests, balloon glows, a carnival midway, craft show and is held around Rocket Park. This are a charge for this part. Many of the hotels in the area give special rates and free passes into the Liftoff if you mentioned you are attending. (Check with the Liftoff website for
participating) For more information on the Ballunar Liftoff - http://www.ballunarfestival.com.
For general information on the Clear Lake area and hotels, see http://www.clearlake.com.

Visitors to JSC Open House 2000 will have the same opportunity to visit the many control centers, training facilities, laboratories and engineering testbeds at the center, as well as nearby Sonny Carter Training Facility where astronauts practice for space walks and Ellington Field with its variety of NASA aircraft. Once again, hundreds of NASA employees, including astronauts,
scientists, and engineers will gather once again to demonstrate the work being conducted at JSC as the center prepares for human space flight and technological research in the new millennium.
Be sure to keep a watchful eye on the JSC website.
