Have you ever noticed that your neighborhood grocery store has (most likely) turned into a combination grocery store, drug store, nick nacks, and other assorted stuff that you really don't need. I bet that you know of at least a couple of grocery stores that have "remodeled" to be a more modern grocery food store. Have you gotten lost in these stores? I bet you might have wondered why these big grocery chains feel the need to expand stores that were fine before. Well, if you haven't, now will be the time for in this rant page I will examine what may be a (hold your breath) conspiracy !
Unfortunately, I work in one of these grocery stores which has been expanded to meet the needs of people who really should be shopping somewhere else! When I first started working for this grocery store, it was a moderately regular size store. Back then (in the good old days - I call em) we were doing good business and the customers were mostly happy with the store. Now that it has been remodeled and (for some reason) re-remodeled, we are losing customers right and left. The store has expanded to about 2 to 2 and a half times the size it used to be! But the problem is, they used that extra space for unnecessary items which nobody (in their right minds) would want! We now have a "food court" where customers will be able to buy food and eat it on these nice little tables. There is a little itty bitty problem though. The prices for these sandwiches and other food stuff are way way too high, plus the fact that most of the stuff taste like shit anyway. We also have a huge wine section now. Again, there is a problem. I work in a town that really doesn't know much about wine in the first place! I hesitate to call it a "hick town" but the name does come to mind! Most of these customers aren't going to buy these fancy wines - they go for the cheap ones. That is only an example of what has been going on when these moronic big shots decide to use what I hesitate to call "brains".
Why do these big mega-food stores think that we like 2 miles worth of groceries, etc, etc.....? We don't need to have 15 rows of the same type of denture cream or 20 rows of diaper rash treatment! And, if your store is anything like mine, the things that we most want are way in the back of the store. We have to go past acres of unnecessary items in order to get to the milk section! Sadly, the "brains" of the bigshots of these mega-food stores are the ones to blame for that. I understand their idea - but they carry this policy to extremes! They want you to buy these snacks and assorted stuff before you get to the milk and meat that you really came for! Devious little devils!
