Here's the character profile originally written for the POTF2 "Attack" R5-D4,
but deleted during Kenner's card redesign.
R5-D4 was once a simple astromech in service to one of the space freighter
jockeys frequenting Mos Eisley Spaceport on the planet Tatooine. However, one
day the little droid made a wrong turn in the crowded streets of that wretched
hive of scum and villainy, and was abducted by a band of scavenging Jawas. He
found himself aboard the Jawa's giant sandcrawler, carted about Tatooine's
deserts amidst a collection of vaporator parts and broken-down droids.
Eventually, the Jawa band stopped at the moisture farm of Owen Lars and his
"nephew," Luke Skywalker. The humans offered to purchase R5-D4 from the Jawas,
but a misfit R2 unit sneakily sabotaged his motivator, causing it to explode.
Skywalker suggested buying the R2 droid instead, and together, the two made
galactic history. Meanwhile, R5-D4, damaged by the motivator malfunction and
suffering during many days of confinement aboard the sandcrawler,
developed a new personality template...one fueled by the desire for *revenge*.
He stole parts from the Jawa junkpile, modifying himself and greatly expanding
his abilities. Finally, in a desperate bid for freedom, he killed the Jawa
leader and escaped into the Tatooine night. Through his information retrieval
interface, he eventually learned of the famed exploits of his fellow former
prisoner. Now, bristling with newly-added weapons and piloting a stolen
starship, R5-D4 is in relentless pursuit of his greatest enemy. His sole
desire...DESTROY R2-D2!
