The story for the movie is as follows. The main character (Johnnie Rico, pictured left) is a collage student about one week from graduation. His father wants him to go to harvard, but he wants to sign up with the MI(mobile infantry) so he could be near his girlfriend(Carmen Ibanez). Johnnie goes against his fathers will and signs up with the MI. Carmen sign's up to be a trainee pilot.
Things go desperatly wrong for johhnie when he is at 'boot camp'. He is assigned as squad leader,(i think this is wrong, anyone out there who know's what it is mail me)on one of their 'live fire'(meaning live amunition) training exersises, one of his troopers has a problem with his helmet. Johnnie tells him to take it off, then acidnetly one of the other troopers shoots his head off. (the guy without a helmet, not Johnnie). Because of this Johnnie is sentanced to 10 lashes. As well as this, his girlfriend Carmen dumps him. So, he decides that MI isn't for him and resigns. About 2 minutes before he leaves, the bugs throw a meteor at earth killing everyone in his home town. After realising there is no point in going home he takes back his resignation and goes off to fight the bugs!!
