Technology in Physics
When delving into the multifarious areas of technology, the one aspect that interests me the most is technology used in physics. The first item of technology that manifests itself in my mind is the remarkable invention of the LASER. This is Light Amplified through the Stimulation of Electromagnetic Radiation. This is perhaps the most useful and most expanding form of technology in physics. It captivates my interest and has my full attention. It has many different uses: Sending information is much more efficient, controlled thermonuclear fusion induced by lasers could solve the world�s energy problems, they can weld different metals without producing the heat that could distort those metals, they can clear cholesterol blockages, they can repair eyes, and they are the basis for holography. Examining all of these helpful uses and perfecting them will better our world.
There is one major use of the LASER which I did not mention in the previous paragraph. This is improving communications. By sending LASER pulses through fiber optic cables, a 144 fiber cable can carry 40,000 simultaneous telephone conversations. Since communications are becoming more vital to the United States and countries around the world, we are in need of a potential replacement for conventional wire. It is amazing that the discovery of one part of technology serves and enhances everybody�s life.
The LASER is just one of the many components of something we call technology. There are other new technologies which are on the frontier of technology in physics. The superconductor is an excellent example of this. There is much to be learned in science and technology. Perhaps the reason why I am most interested in the LASER is that it can help many people across the world. When there are well-defined areas which can be explored and bettered, technology becomes even more exciting. The fact will always remain that technology will become an instrumental part of our lives. If we are interested in the varied aspects of technology, then our lives will be much more pleasant. Since I am interested in computers, lasers, and other forms of technology, my life has been bettered. As we go out into the great world, just remember this: Technology is a great tool, and if we use it wisely, then we will prevail.
