Desperately Seeking...

This is a list of things I've been hunting down for some time now. Most of them are hard to get, at least in Australia. If you happen to know where I can find any of these items - at a reasonable price - I'd really appreciate hearing from you.

[Anime] [Manga] [Comics] [Books] [Music]

Anime

These anime series have not been commercially released in the West, so I'm looking for episodes fansubbed into English. I'd strongly prefer to get them from an Australian source because the Aussie dollar is so weak at the moment, and shipping is always expensive.

  • Rose of Versailles Episodes 17-40
This is a classic shoujo anime set on the cusp of the French Revolution. It's about a woman raised as a man, who becomes Captain of the Royal Guard to the young Marie Antoinette. It's about a lot of things, like honour and duty and power and corruption. The thing is, you already know about the looming shadow of events to come, and that gives everything a sense of tragic destiny. Anyway, this is one series I want to see the rest of.

  • Brother, Dear Brother Episodes 9 and onwards
This series is also known as Oniisama E. It's a dark drama about obsession and other scary emotions - shoujo anime with teeth. Sadly, it's even harder to find than Rose of Versailles.

  • Legend of the Galactic Heroes Episodes 43-110
Okay, this is just a wish, because as far as I know the rest of the series has not been fansubbed yet. There are supposed to be several groups working on it, but apparently it's a difficult project because of the translation. And with all the strategy and politics in the series, you really need to understand what they're going on about.

(Update: Apparently episodes 43-54 have now been subbed! Now I just have to find a source...)

Manga

  • Saint Seiya Film Book 1
This is such a shot in the dark... Anyway, the original Saint Seiya manga inspired an anime TV series, which inspired four movies, which inspired the film books. A film book, also known as an anime comic, narrates the story through a combination of anime screenshots and extracts of dialogue. I'm looking for the Chinese edition film book of the first Saint Seiya movie, which was published in Hong Kong under the imprint 'Anime Comics World'. It was probably released just prior to 1997.

Comics

  • A Distant Soil #13
Created by Colleen Doran and published by Image. I never managed to get hold of this issue, and now there's a gap in my collection. ;_; It happens to be a special sketchbook issue too.

Books

  • Sung In Shadow
Written by Tanith Lee. Published by DAW in 1983. ISBN 0-87997-824-4. I've always been a fan of Lee's richly imagined, dark fantasy tales. Sung In Shadow is apparently her take on the Romeo and Juliet story, with some intriguing premises. Unfortunately, it's been out of print for a while.

  • Trumps of Doom
Written by Roger Zelazny. The first book of the Second Chronicles of Amber. I'm looking for the Orbit or Sphere paperback edition of this book.

  • Dragon Warriors Book Five: The Power of Darkness
Written by Oliver Johnson. Published by Corgi in 1986. ISBN 0-552-52334-8. Out of print.

  • Dragon Warriors Book Six: The Lands of Legend
Written by Dave Morris. Published by Corgi in 1986. ISBN 0-552-52335-6. Out of print.

  • Titan: The Fighting Fantasy World
Written by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone. Edited by Marc Gascoigne. Published by Puffin Books in the late 1980s. Availability uncertain.

  • Falcon 5: The Dying Sun
Probably written by Mark Smith and Jamie Thomson, who authored the rest of the series. Published by Sphere Books in the mid-to-late 1980s. Out of print.

Music

  • Gabriel Knight Soundtrack
The soundtrack CD for the Gabriel Knight computer game series. It was released as part of the special collector's box set that included the first two games and a graphic novel. I'm prepared to buy the CD on its own, if anyone is willing to sell it.
