S: "You saved me. By sacrificing Unit 00."

What are humans? Are they creations of God? Humans, and that which is created by humans.
This is that which is mine. My life; my heart. I am a vessel for my thoughts.
The entry plug; the throne of the soul. Who is this? This is me.

This object that is is myself, that which forms what is me. This is the self that can be seen and yet it is not like that which is myself.
A strange feeling. My body feels as if it is melting. I can no longer see myself, my form, my shape... It fades from view. Awareness dawns of someone who is not me; who was here, there, beyond me here.
Shinji? This person I know, Major Katsuragi. Doctor Akagi. People. My classmates. The pilot of Unit 02. Commander Ikari? Who are you? Who are you? Who are you..."

N: "What's the matter, Rei?"
nine year old Rei (looks much younger): "I'm lost."
N: "Is that so? Do you want to come with me then?"
R: "No."
N: "But how will you get home by yourself?"
R: "That's none of your business, old hag."
N: "What?"
R: "I can get home by myself. Leave me alone, old hag."
N: "You shouldn't call someone a hag."
R: "But you are an old hag, aren't you?"
N: "I'm getting angry. Commander Ikari will spank you."
R: "The Commander is the one who calls you that."
N: "That's..."
R (with a slight smile): "'That old hag is annoying. That old hag is no use anymore.'"
N (strangling Rei): "You little bitch! Did you know you're replaceable too, Rei? Replaceable just like me!"

Man: "But it's like looking at porcelain figures of a mother and her child. Perhaps there really isn't that much difference between humans and dolls."
