Note about "Shadows..."
Ok, I'm pretty
happy with "Shadows in the Dark" as it is right now, but, like all pieces
of literary work, you can never revise enough. Therefore, I'm taking this
opportunity to apologize for an error in the story you may or may not have
noticed and I'm too lazy to try to do anything about it. Here goes:
In the end
of the story, Mulder and Scully leave for the hospital. Mrs. Mulder didn't
go with them. But you know what I forgot about when writing THAT little
tidbit? There's a dead body in her house just laying where Scully shot
and killed him. All in the sake of self protection, of course, but still.
I have to apologize about this because it may seem a bit cruel to leave
a dead body hanging around a traumatized woman who had just lost her daughter
for the third time. Not only that, I also realized that, unless Mrs. Mulder
took it upon herself to call the police or morgue or something to get rid
of the body, the CSM's little henchman will be just laying in Mrs. Mulder's
living room, messing up her carpet with his blood. Now, I could have just
written the police in, but then you know how it is with stereotypical cops.
They ask a lot of questions and they would have wanted to know where those
two FBI agents went. Then Mulder and Scully couldn't have gone to the hospital.
They'd have to wait for an ambulence, which isn't so bad, except that you
wouldn't get that funny little bit about Scully driving with a sprained
ankle and her being all dizzy and stuff. And I really like that bit. Comedy
relief, if you will. So I apologize to everybody about that one mistake,
whether you noticed or not. I'd especially like to apologize to Mrs. Mulder,
who, for the sake of the comedy relief of a good bit, had to spend most
of the night with a dead henchman.
Signed,
Kristine Castillo
