Cyberpunk Fashion

Ok, so there's not that much to report on the cyberpunk fashion scene.
That's not what I'm trying to do anyways. What I'm trying to is give you ideas on what you could do to look just a little more cool.

Most people are very self-consious, I am not. I feel that most CP's dress only for themselves. It is so hard to define a persons personality, especially a group into a whole thought. I think there's different types, "WC" way-casual, fancies, and what we call "TOCU" (technically obsessed computer user.) here I go.

CLOTHES
So, what shoes to wear? Most CP's and Hackers tend to wear hiking or cross-trainer shoes, like nike and such, mostly black or brown and sometimes that future-ish look.WCs like nike ACG and Converse sneakers. Fancies like Doc Martins and Japanese style. Keep in mind that comfort is the goal. TOCUs love those nikes that are all silver and spacy

WCs usally have a pile of fadded jeans, black and blue, and khakkis laying around. Lose, breathable dark t-shirts. Alot of times with the sleeves or pits riped off. They usually wear this for quite some time before changing to. Fancies prefer casual eveningwear, velvet blazers over their name brand t-shirt and jeans, and Japanese influenced styles. TOCUs love to wear the shiny stuff, silver silk shirts, mesh, black leather, black fabrik that looks like leather. Silver and black. All white. Anything that a person would look at and say "hacker." (not that they are trying to totally be hackers, they wanna dress like the stereotype.)

WCs have hemp (a good replenishable resorce, very usefull)bracelets and minimal silver rings. Fancies wear complementary jewlery, and also go for minimal but very wow. TOCUs love their stuff, acsessories are must for them, anything out of chipboard, keyboard, cpu's into jewlery. Wire bracelet and neclaces, hell they even draw barcodes on their heads. Matalic nail polish, and white tape on their hands and arms. I do have a necklace made out of a 4mb memory chip my friend made for me. It's pretty cool.

MAKEUP

WC's hardly if at all wear make up, maybe some lipstick or eyeliner. Fancies like to wear a few things that really make them look good. TOCUs love black eyeliner, bright colored eyeshadow and metalic lipstick, shiny stuff you know.

GOTHS VS. CYBERPUNKS

I've heard alot of debate over Goths being Cyberpunk, and I think alot of it is mixed together, they both like black clothing and dress alittle different. I have discussed this numerous times with my boyfriend who is a goth and the difference is that although goths can all get into computers and maybe even eventually see the same future as us as a possibility they belive in other stuff to, they most of the time aren't into compuers though. We have different reasons for the way we dress and are overall reason. Cyberpunks on occaision dress like Goths. Goths make good friends because they have the same outlook on society. More on this to come.

Cyberpunk Fashion on TV and in Books

In just the past few years technology and cyberpunk as a way of life has started to become more widely recognized in television and in books. Of course as much as I have been trying to pay attention I have not yet been able to see or read everything on the subject. what I have seen and read I will mention here, it you know of anything I should know about in this subject thats not here yet let me know.

HACKERS: the movie
Based on a group of high school hackers living in New York, Kate and Dade helped define the trend to the unknowing public kinda affecting the stereotype, like just dress different to set yourself apart.
The Fifth Element
Set way in the future, you have to watch this movie to see the clothes. the makeup and everything pertaining to fashion. Incredable.
Johnny Mnemonic
William Gibson's movie based on the short from Burning chrome, All Johnny wears is a suit but Janie was dressed cool and so were a few others
Tank Girl
Ok so this movie has nothing to do with cyberpunk whatsoever, but the clothes do.
William Gibsons Novels
Lot's of fashion ideas, mostly black and white and silver, t-shirts with the arms ripped off , and mesh are big.
Lost in space
From what I hear it has some cool clothes in the begining.
Strange Days
They have a few characters with cool clothes ;-)
X-Files episode=Killswitch
Written by WG, the character Invisigoth looks like a common cybergothpunk character.
