Jareth
the Goblin King (portrayed
by David Bowie) Within this fanfic; one of the mysterious Fae, Jareth rules
over all Goblin kind. He controls a dangerous Labyrinth that adapts itself
to the fears and dreams of those who try to navigate it. He was defeated
nine years prior by a teenage girl, Sarah Williams, with whom he had developed
a fascination. Whenever someone wishes the goblins would take away a child,
Jareth takes said child to the Underground. What he does with such children
is discovered within the tale. Jareth can shapeshift into a barn owl.
Sarah
Williams (portrayed by Jennifer Connelly) Nine years prior Sarah
had wished away her half brother and in order to get him back she had to
solve the Labyrinth and confront the Goblin King. She won. But life didn't
turn out like she had dreamed. A struggling actress and author in New York
she finds her imagination drying up under her need to eak out a living.
Until Jareth returns to her life and spirits her away to the Underground
once more. Now she isn't sure what's more dangerous, her feelings
for the Goblin King or the wrath of his old enemy.

Lady
Saishoku (Tamlyn Tomita) Beautiful and crafty Sai is a three
tail Kitsune, or Japanese fox spirit. She's Jareth's closest friend and
a master of martial arts and trickery. Luckily her fun loving nature is
tempered by her love for her human husband, Ian. She befriends Sarah, who
is quick to learn that having a kitsune as a friend is a very good thing,
indeed.
Ian
Jasper(Ewan McGregor) Jareth's gardener and general houseboy.
How Ian and his mother, Colleen, came to be in Jareth's service has yet
to be revealed, but it is an interesting story. Ian is much older than
he looks, thanks to Fae magic. He is loyal, cunning, and not necessarily
Jareth's biggest fan. His wife is the Lady Saishoku, and he enjoys tugging
on her tails to get her attention.
Colleen
Jasper (Kathy Bates) Col is Jareth's cook. The goblins follow
her orders, because they like to eat and fear being made to miss a meal.
Col is sweet natured, but has strong opinions. She can organize a passle
of goblins, gave Jareth a disapproving glare and still look after her son
and daughter-in-law. She is quick to befriend a lost and confused Sarah.
Col admits she asked to be Jareth's cook but won't elaborate.
Gwyn
ap Nudd (Sting) The King of Annwn and Master of the Wild Hunt
is an old enemy of Jareth's. He clawed his way to his position as royal
favorite in the Fae court. Jareth's presence as Crown Prince reminds Gwyn
how far he really is from the throne. There may be other reasons for his
hatred of the Goblin King, but they have yet to be revealed.
Goblins
Jareth's loyal minions. They aren't too bright and not much to look at,
but some of them make up for it by being ruthless and viscous. After all
you can't keep a good goblin down. No matter how hard you kick it.
Queen
Titania (Michelle Pfeiffer) Jareth's mother, Titania is often
bored and playes her courtiers against each other. Both she and Oberon
are holding a grudge against their only son for a as yet untold past incident.
Her relationship with Jareth is strained and tense. Some have mentioned
they cannot picture this actress portraying Jareth's mother. Keep in mind,
the Fae do not age as mortals do. Titania is well over a thousand years
old.
King
Oberon (William Hurt) Jareth's father, High King of the Fae.
He maintains a cold distance from his son over a past incident. I chose
this actor because his was the first performance of Oberon I saw (in 1982)
and it left a lasting impression on me.
