General: Talia was born on Bajor during the Cardassian occupation. The first five years of her life are something of a mystery, even to Talia herself. Official records state the arrival of a five year old female child at an orphanage in the Northern part of what was once the nation state known as the United Kingdom. This, however, is all they state.
For the next ten years, Talia found herself shunted from one foster home to the next. This was due as much to Talia's unruly attitude as to any failing on the part of those who cared for her. At the tender age of fifteen, Talia walked out of her last foster home. After acquiring false travel documents, she was able to secure a position on a Bolian freighter transporting a shipment of self-sealing stem bolts to the Martian colonies.
Talia's arrival at the Martian colonies was something of a watershed. The close proximity of the Planitia shipyards, made Mars a gathering place for species from all parts of the Federation. For the next two years, Talia worked at the Elysseum Bar and Replimat, where she discovered both a fascination for other cultures, and a natural ability for languages.
Leaving the Elysseum, she spent the following ten years travelling throughout both the Alpha and Beta quadrants. During this period, Talia acted as a mercenary in the service of several non-Federation governments. The details of these activities are available in the file BEDFORD, TALIA, SUPLEMENTAL (file no 3414 sigma). Access to this file is restricted to those personnel having a minimum security clearance of level 9.
The decision to join Star Fleet was a gradual process. She had come into contact with many Star Fleet personnel during her travels. While she did not relish the command system under which they worked, the opportunities which Star Fleet presented to visit less accessable areas of the Federation had a certain appeal. Thus it was that Talia determined that she would return to Earth and apply to Star Fleet Academy.
Talia spent the next six months preparing herself to take the Entrance examination. She failed on her first attempt, her lack of formal education resulting in a low score in the mathematics component. However, this only increased her determination, and on her second attempt, Talia not only passed, but achieved the highest overall score of the current group of applicants.
Thus, at the age of 27, Talia entered Star Fleet Academy. In view of her extensive field experience, she was granted a special dispensation which allowed her to forego the first two years of standard Academy training. She graduated two years later with a double major in Cultural Anthropology and Linguistics. Over the past ten years, she has served on two Science vessels, the USS Fleming and the USS Mead.
Talia has developed an admirable reputation within her field, and has had numerous articles published in sociological journals, as well as giving several guest lectures on Klingon culture, (an area of particular interest) at the Dalstrom Institute. However, her restless nature and disregard for authority have seen her demoted back to ensign for insubordination on 2 occasions.
Despite these set backs, and official protests from several senior personnel, she has recently been promoted to Captain of the newly commissioned U.S.S. Trinity.
Hobbies: Archaeology, collects Klingon weapons, "tribal" art and antiquarian books.
Likes: Animals (Currently has a pet Cardassian vole named Lucy). Japanese food. Twentieth century Earth folk music (Joan Baez and Marianne Faithful are particular favourites). Pina Colada's. Mineral water.
Dislikes: Camping out (she did enough of that during her travels, thank you!) Authority. Intolerance (she once broke the nose of a fellow sociologist who refered to Klingon society as "primitive"). Replicated water (see above).
