About his Romulan Heritage: When Jarok was 2 his parents defected from the Romulan star empire, to the Federation. During the journey his parents died and he was adopted by two starfleet officers (Cynthi and Albert Foster). They renamed him Thomas,and he was given reconsructive surgery to hide his heretige,so that he would not be ridiculed for being romulan. Jarok did not know of his heretige until he entered starfleet academy,and starfleet command decided to tell him. Jarok told no one else of his heretige until his final Training sim before graduating from the academy, he also had his Romulan features restored. He changed his name from Thomas back to Jarok but he kept the surname Foster.

General: Jarok's adoptive parents were both in starfleet, both were engineers aboard the USS Melbourne, both were killed at Wolf 359, trying to prevent a Borg invasion, Jarok was on earth at the time. At age 16 he was accepted into starfleet academy. His major was Security/Tactical, his minor was archaeology, ship operations and ship design. He was later sent to the Starfleet special operations academy (specially trained for covert missions, rescue missions in high risk areas, intelligence gathering etc.)
