Issue: #27 - May 1997
Title: The Last X-Man
Creative Team: Scott Lobdell (story), Chris Bachalo (pencils), Al Vey & Scott Hanna (inks), Marie Javins & Dr. Martin (colors), Starkings & Comicraft (letters).
Summary/Review: Ohhh yeah. Jubes is THE STAR of this ENTIRE issue! FINALLY! My dreams are answered. And y'know what? This is the first time, in a long time, that I've seen Jubes drawn this well. Amazing, that Chris Bachalo.
Anyway, in this issue, the way cool Jubes is in the clutches of that baddy Bastion who tries, with various techniques, to fool Jubes into revealing information about the X-Men. However, with her being a latent telepath, it's real hard to get that info from her noggin, along with her bein' mighty smart to see through Bastion's lies. So, instead of picking up Jubilee's thoughts, Daria, his assistant, sees images from Bastion's mind. Images of a mechanical hand and a pink substance flowing around everywhere, then a full view of Bastion with odd blue symbols tattooed on him. Yup, me too. I think he's a robot as well. Possibly...Nimrod? Hmmm?
Also, Banshee figures out where Black Tom was sending the kids. If you know a bit about the X-Men's past, you should be able to pick this up. It's not that hard.
AND, as added bonus, there's a lil b/w toon at the end of the book with Jubes and Skin teachin' ya how to make Jubilee's World Famous Gargantuan Pancakes! WOOOWEEE!!! Click here to see the full page of "Cookin' With Jubilee"!
Quick Thoughts: One word: keen-o-reeno. I done liked this issue. It saw a little change in Bachalo's style, but one that I liked. I especially liked how Jubilee was drawn throughout, and the little twists and turns of the story were definitely cool. Not much more I can say besides... More Jubilee stories!
