Issue: #3 - January 1995
Title: Dead Silence
Creative Team: Scott Lobdell (writer), Chris Bachalo (art), Mark Buckingham (inks), Richard Starkings & Comicraft (letters), Steve Buccellato & Electric Crayon (colors).
Summary/Review:
A couple weird things in this issue. The kids continue their search and (hopefully) capture of Penance. They finally stop her, or shall I say Chamber finally stops her. Kind of weird but understandable about how he does it. He basically lets a lot of the psionic energy pour out of him and Penance stops, lunges at his face, and just stops right before tearing his British noggin off, and Chamber didn't even flinch, t'boot.
Mondo made his first appearance, albeit a brief one, in this issue. They also show a small preview of some supposed things to come by plopping in the Nanny (not Fran Drescher) and the Orphon Maker in the middle as an interlude. But the weirdest thing that happened was, with all this slicing from Penance going on, I cut my finger while reading this issue. Kinda freaky. Not really. Move on.
Quick Thoughts: I have similar feelings about this issue than I had for the last, but what I liked most was Chamber's role. Yes, I feel that the whole 'kindred spirit' thing is a little generic, but it's much more different in this case. At first, I viewed Chamber and Penance as being very difference from one another, but the scene where he confronts her... that opened things up. Best part of the whole issue. Also, it's nice to see some foreshadowing of things to come, since we all love those cliffhangers (or at least, we should. I mean, this is Lobdell here. It's required).
