Voyager's crew is made up of many different and unique individuals. Here are the main characters from Star Trek Voyager.
Kathryn Janeway, the hero of Voyager. From the very first episode Janeway demonstrates her strength of character. She is faced with an almost impossible choice -- destroy the Caretaker's starbase to save the Ocampa and strand Voyager 70,000 light-years from home or use the Caretaker to return home and condemn the Ocampan species to death.. After much deliberation, she decides that it would violate everything she held sacred to thus allow the destruction of the Ocampan people; she orders the starbase destroyed, stranding Voyager in the Delta Quadrant with little hope of reaching home within the lifetimes of the crew members. From that moment on, Janeway must live with the decision she has made and the knowledge that she is responsible for the lives of her entire crew. She does not take her responsibility lightly, and has made it her goal to get her crew home. But even as she and her crew continue to head for home, searching for shortcuts that will lessen the amount of time it takes them to return, they explore the territory through which they travel. They are, after all, a Starfleet crew, and they hold firmly to the Starfleet directive to 'explore strange new worlds. to seek out new life and new civilizations...to boldly go where no one has gone before.'
Chakotay, the fearless Captain of the Maquis ship chased by Voyager into the Delta Quadrant, is a Native American who attended Starfleet Academy and became a Lieutenant Commander. When the two crews united under the captaincy of Kathryn Janeway on the U.S. S. Voyager, Chakotay accepted the position of First Officer. Due in part to his leadership abilities and his will to survive, as well as his loyalty to his new captain, the two crews have learned to work together and value each other's strengths. A close friendship has developed between Chakotay and Janeway which enhances their working relationship and allows them to lean on each other for support in any situation.
The staid, unflappable Vulcan is well-suited to his job of Security officer. He is a longtime friend of Janeway's, and his dry wit often adds a touch of humour to the show. He tends to seem unemotional (he is a Vulcan after all), but beneath the logical exterior resides a man who cares deeply for his crewmates and the well-being of Voyager. His levelheaded response to any situation is often invaluable and his opinions are highly valued by his captain. The Captain relies on her security officer for tactical advice, but she relies on her old friend for support and personal advice. She values Tuvok as a true friend, and despite his stoic appearance, Tuvok considers her a friend as well.
Paris is the black sheep of the Voyager bridge. Rescued by Janeway from a penal colony because of his reputation as a pilot and daredevil, he is totally loyal to both her and Voyager. He is a romantic, play-the-field kind of guy, in the tradition of Kirk and Riker, and his dry sarcasm adds an element of levity to many scenes. Despite his tendency to joke under pressure, he is an incredibly talented pilot, good enough to give Sulu a run for his money. (Wouldn't that be something to see). Paris is a valued member of the Voyager crew, despite -- or perhaps because of -- his often uncalled for comments and jokes.
The Emergency Medical Holographic Program is an excellent physician, and amazingly good at his job considering the fact that he is a hologram designed only for temporary replacement of the ship's doctor in case of emregency! Though his bedside manner leaves something to be desired, the Doctor is well-accepted by the members of Voyager's crew. He has saved the day many times -- a fact of which he is never reluctant to remind the rest of the crew -- and he has evolved far beyond his programming to the point where he hasa personality that is uniquely his own. Since the creation of his holo-emitter which allows him the freedom not only to roam the ship, but also to beam off the ship on away missions. His holo-emitter has opened up a whole new world for the Doctor, one which he takes great delight in exploring.
Torres is a hot-tempered half-human, half-Klingon female. Originally a member of the Maquis crew, she had some trouble adjusting to the rules of a Starfleet ship. Once she settled in, however, her skills as an engineer soon earned her the rank of Chief Engineer. Her abilities have gotten Voyager out of innumerable situations in true Starfleet fashion. Despite her difficulty controlling her temper, she is a loyal member of the Voyager crew.
Kim is a the youngest officer on Voyager, straight out of the Academy on his first deep space mission. He is a fine officer, but often finds it difficult to oncentrate on the task at hand. Perhaps it is Kim who has the most difficulty dealing with the fact that his first mission landed him 70,000 light years from home and his family. However, he is does his best to cope with this problem and has adjusted quite well to his life on Voyager. Much to the delight of his best friend Tom Paris, Kim is putting a great deal of effort into being more assertive and morewilling to voice his opinions.
Neelix, a native of the Delta Quadrant, is a salvage operator turned cook and morale officer. The Talaxian was originally taken aboard Voyager as a guide as his knowledge of the area was great due to his occupation. As Voyager began to get close to space unkknown to him, Neelix began to fear his usefulness would reach an end. In order to reamin aboard Voyager, he decided to prove to Captain Janeway that she could not afford to let him go. He used his cooking skills to supplement the rations the crew was eating in order to reduce the repilcator energy being used. Despite the somewhat...unusual dishes he produces, he is very popular with the crew and takes his role as morale officer very seriously.
Kes is an Ocaampan, native to the Delta Quadranr, who was captured and enslaved by the Kazon Ogla. After being rescued by Voyager and her beloved Neelix, Kes decided to join the Voyager crew. Serving as a nurse in Sickbay, she soon became a close frind of the Doctor. She began, under Tuvok's tutelage, to explore her telepathic abilities, and in The Gift, Kes evolves into an energy form as a result of her incredible, but untapped, psychic powers. During her stay on Voyager, Kes became a well-loved member of the crew due to her gentle nature and willingness to listen. Her role came closer to the role of Counselor than anyone else's role on Voyager.
Seven is the latest addition to the Voyager crew. Rescued from a Borg ship, and thus separated from the Collective, Seven struggles to develop an identity of her own. Encouraged by Janeway, she attempts to discover what it means to be an individual, exploring everything, from how to eat with a fork and knife to the intricacies of human relations. While some of her Borg technology remains a part of her as a physical reminder her of her heritage, Seven is becoming more and more human as time goes on and she struggles to adjust to her new life as an independent being.
As time has passed, Seven has truly begun to develop a personality of her own. One result Janeway could not have predicted when she encouraged her new crew member to discover who she really was is Seven's independent spirit. Seven has seldom hesitated to defy her Captain's orders when she felt they were 'inefficient' or incorrect. Placed on probation for some time for insubordination, since she was given some of her original freedom back Seven has made a greater effort to observe Starfleet protocol. She continues to learn more about herself as a human, although she is still not entirely comfortable with her humanity. And each time Voyager encounters a phenomena that offers them the possiblity of returning to the Alpha Quadrant and Earth, Seven battles her fears and reservations about returning to the home planet she can not remember and a people who have experienced terrible atrocities at the hands of the Borg that Seven lived with for her most formative years.
