Heimdall's pre-Aesir personality is similiar to Baldur's as it never resurfaced and remains a mystery. His identity can only be hinted at, just as Baldur's. The most logical guesses would be an Alchemax employee, or perhaps a volunteer. His role was that of Thor's right hand man, and it was he who announced the return of the Aesir with Thor when taking over the floating city of Valhalla. Heimdall was very faithful to his Lord Thor, and would never question his judgement. Therefore, when someone is considered to be a foe of Thor, then you had better believe that they have found a new advesary in Heimdall as well! Simply put by Loki, "He is truly the most steadfast of my Aesir brethren, resolute in purpose, unquestioning in his loyalty----what a bore."
As the technological counter-part of Heimdall, the watchman of the Rainbow Bridge, Bifrost, Heimdall has many abilities that resemble those of the real Heimdall. He has hyper-accelerated senses and reflexes, which enable him to "hear the prayers and curses men whisper in solitude-- --feel the tectonic shift of continents in their sluggish evolutions-- --count the drops of dew that blanket the rainforests!" (In his own words) He also has the ability to throw his sword, Hofund, with uncanny accuracy. He can control his sword in it's flight with a telepathic hold. He has also been shown flying, and the readers are led to believe that he possesses the natural abilities of an Asgardian, which include super-strength and an enhanced healing factor.
However, Heimdall's days parading as a god of Valhalla was short lived. The floating city was killing everything beneath it, and was quickly approaching New York. This attraced the attention of various heroes, who flocked to stop the gods and the city they had stolen. Heimdall fought against the Spider-Man and the Punisher, and was finally killed by a blast from the Punisher's plasma cannon. The blast knocked both Heimdall and Baldur from the city, sending them flying to the streets below.
