The Reverend Cecil McAdam was a jealous man. . .he was jealous of the mighty figure in which he worshipped. He desired Thor's strength, and craved his power. When word was spread about a project that would enable those who sought such power to gain it, the Reverend volunteered. It turned out that all of the Reverend's characteristics matched perfectly with the fabled God of Thunder. The Thorite priest also sought out others to join in on the project. He informed Jake Gallows of the project, who dismissed it as ridiculous dogma. He also brought Tiana, the subject who would become Hela, to the Aesir Project. It wasn't long after that he became, Thor, God of Thunder!
The Mighty Thor turned out better than Alchemax could have hoped. He was the perfect mascot for their new group of heroes, and he quickly set out to discredit the others, such as Spider-Man. His awesome powers and the fantastic new Mjolnir made him quite credible in the eyes of the public, and many sought to travel to Valhalla, the floating city, after he and the Aesir took it. Few ever learned the truth behind the whole "Aesir Affair" and most dismissed it as a hoax. The rumours of Thor's return quickly died down after he was defeated at the hands of Spider-Man, Ravage, the Punisher, and a small group of X-Men.
However, the Reverend survived the conflict, and hid in Downtown. He could no longer face his church, and felt as if he had become a traitor in the eyes of Thor. While wondering through the streets of Downtown, the Reverend was drawn to a scene involving the Fenris. He had the oppurtunity to reclaim the lost Mjolnir, and did so, prying it out of Bloodsword's hands. Weeks of wondering through the streets with Mjolnir and experiencing bizarre dreams left the Reverend on the edge. He was alone, desperate, and frightned. The sacred weapon scared him, but yet he could not bare to rid himself of it. Finally, he witnessed the Fenris prepared to sacrifice someone in the name of Thor. He swallowed his fright, and began to utter the command that he had heard Avataar give in the past. As he clutched onto Mjolnir, he transformed into the Mighty Thor once again.
Something was different this time. The Reverend had taken back seat to the Thor personality again, but something had changed. He no longer acted as arrogant and egotistical as he had in the past. He treated the "mortals" with respect and kindness. It is assumed that the destruction of Alchemax must have somehow damaged the machinary that instructed Thor. His powers were unaltered, but found himself the victim of "warrior rages." During these fits, a moment of clarity washes over him, and Thor is able to recognize himself as the Reverend, although he disregards it. Thor has become the Fenris defender and ruler, and it is unknown whether or not he will ever learn of the truth. . .learn that he isn't truly the God of Thunder.
The rumours of the Thunder God's return has spread worldwide. His exploits into the past and Downtown have tested his powers and abilities. His nanoids provide him with enhanced strength, and other physical attributes, such as invulnerability. The new Mjolnir has many of the same abilities as the weapon upon which it acquired its name. It possessed the ability to drain energy, and project ionic, or eletrical, energy, thus allowing him some control over weather patterns. Mjolnir can also be thrown, and houses some type of homing device which allows it to return to its owner's grasp. The Fenris have also witnessed the Vulture attempting to pick up the sacred weapon. The hammer demonstrated it's inability to be picked up by anyone other than Thor, thus strengthing their belief in Thor as the one true God of Thunder.
